. Overview of the ACT Group We are seeking an outstanding Antitrust Knowledge and Practice Resource Attorney to join the firm’s Antitrust, Competition, & Trade (ACT) practice—with lawyers located in Washington, DC, Silicon Valley, and New York. The U.S. practice works together with the global ACT practice, which is comprised of 300 lawyers practicing across the UK, Europe, and Asia. The Freshfields’ ACT group is one of the most elite global practices handling all aspects of antitrust-related postures, including pre-deal risk analysis, U.S. agency-facing advocacy, and litigation. Role Summary/Purpose of Position The Antitrust Knowledge and Practice Resource Attorney will support key initiatives of the practice group related to knowledge management, business development, and attorney training. The role will help ensure the group’s attorneys have the skills and resources they need, leverage the group’s collective experience and insights in our work product, and win new work by contributing to internal and external publications. This is an inaugural role and will involve designing, implementing, and maintaining practice resources for the group. The Antitrust Knowledge and Practice Resource Attorney will also deliver on-going assistance to attorneys on the use of resources, creation of new resources, and training of lawyers within the group. Key responsibilities and deliverables Work closely with partners, counsel, and business service professionals to establish scope of work and design workplan for this inaugural role. Provide support to the ACT group in the fields of (1) knowledge management, (2) business development and market insights, and (3) training development and delivery. Knowledge Management Develop, organize, maintain, and update internal website of forms, memos, training materials, precedents, and other resources. Stay apprised of changes in applicable laws and best practices to accurately maintain—and in some cases prepare—model precedents. Attend webinars and/or conferences to increase awareness of the latest legal technology as it is relevant to the ACT practice. Capture and distill experience and insight for reuse to improve performance. Business Development and Market Insights Collaborate with firm’s antitrust attorneys on business development initiatives; identify legal issues and trends relating to competition and assists in the production of articles for in-house and external publications. Work with business development professionals to draft blog posts, client presentations, client RFP responses and pitches, and other materials in connection with market and legal developments. Work with lawyers to capture their experience and descriptions of client matters to enhance client work product, client training program, presentation materials, and ability to win new work. Prepare targeted research and analysis in connection with various internal or external initiatives. Create presentations that enhance the firm’s profile and adds value to our clients. Assist with market research into transactions and industries. Training Development and Delivery Work with other practice resource lawyers and associate development teams to help design and deliver training programs for counsel, associate, and summer associate. Provide internal training and consulting on knowledge management concepts and methodologies. Help disseminate information about the firm’s knowledge sharing program to internal audiences, maintaining communications on knowledge sharing across the firm. Key requirements (Communication/skills/experience) JD from an ABA accredited law school. 4+ years of Antitrust experience in a large law firm or government agency with an active Antitrust practice. Strong understanding of antitrust law and doctrines. Background in Knowledge Management in a large law firm (preferred). Ability to work independently. Desire to play leadership role in developing and promoting this inaugural role. Confident and effective communicator with various members of the firm, both attorneys and staff. Adaptable to changing business needs. A skilful listener with an open style; good at facilitating discussion. Excellent influencing skills. Good networking and sharing of ideas and success. Clear and up-to-date understanding of business environment and processes and good working knowledge of the group’s strategy. Ability to think strategically in terms of culture and behavior, business process and technology, and tools. Good appreciation of client needs at both operational and strategic levels. An understanding of the principles of knowledge management. Appetite for working in a dynamic global law firm in a rapidly growing practice. For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California or whose Manager is in New York, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
