Requirements Job Overview The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for the provision of legal services to the University and its officers, directors, administrators, faculty, and staff. The office provides legal advice and counsel on the broad spectrum of legal issues that arise in the operation of the University. Working closely with the senior attorneys in the office, the Assistant Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice on a full range of contract, research, technology and intellectual property matters. This position is responsible for contract review and drafting, including, procurement contracts, facilities contracts, sponsored research agreements, technology agreements, federal and local government contracts, custom education agreements, and affiliation agreements. This position is also responsible for research and advising on transactional, research, technology, intellectual property and compliance matters. This position will serve as a key advisor to the Offices of Procurement, Planning and Facilities, Auxiliary Business Services and Real Estate, among others. Work Interactions This position reports to the Vice President and General Counsel and will work day-to-day with the senior lawyers in the Office of General Counsel who are primarily responsible for contract, research, technology and intellectual property matters. Requirements and Qualifications Juris Doctorate. D.C. bar membership (or immediate eligibility for such membership). Three or more years of experience as a practicing attorney and/or judicial law clerk. Broad experience in general corporate matters is required, and familiarity with laws relevant to research, technology, intellectual property, government contracts, and higher education is preferred. Well-developed analytic and writing skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Collegial working style, sound judgment and flexibility.
