Job Summary Our nationally recognized Health Care practice group is seeking two highly qualified, mid-level associates to join our team, in the Chicago office. Health Care associates at Ropes & Gray play a crucial role in providing legal support and guidance to clients in the health care industry. Candidates must have legal experience and expert knowledge of federal and IL state regulatory health care laws to represent various sectors of the global health care industry such as academic medical centers and community hospitals, health care investors and financial institutions, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies and managed care organizations and insurance companies, to name a few. Duties/Responsibilities As a Health Care associate, you will work with the firm’s clients to navigate complex legal and regulatory matters, anticipate trends and new initiatives, and develop creative, strategic, and suitable business solutions ensuring compliance and mitigating risks. Associates in this position require a strong understanding of federal and state health care laws and regulations, as well as possess excellent analytical, research, and communication skills. Associates in this position will be expected to: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide legal support and guidance on health care-related matters; Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and local health care laws and regulations, including representing clients in government audits and investigations; Participate in the due diligence reviews and assessments needed to structure and negotiate merger transactions; Conduct legal research and analysis on health care laws, regulations, and industry trends; Draft, review, and negotiating various health care-related agreements, contracts, and policies; Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings and applications; Work with partners to prepare legal memoranda, presentations, and client communications; and Stay updated on changes in health care laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Required Skills/Abilities Qualified candidates will have 3 – 5 years of current health care law experience, preferably at a law firm, working with health care institutions and businesses. Strong working knowledge of regulatory issues, including fraud and abuse, False Claims Act, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA/HITECH privacy and security, managed care contracting, Medicare and Medicaid, and hospital/physician contracting. Candidates should also have excellent academic credentials and are required to have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and currently admitted in the state of IL and in good standing. Candidates should also have the proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, have strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
