Armstrong Teasdale LLP is seeking Patent Agents to join its Intellectual Property Services group. The ideal candidate should possess patent preparation and prosecution experience in the software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical areas. Patent Agents assist patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Work hand-in-hand with inventors on newly created products Assist in the identification of patentable inventions Research current patented technologies to best assist clients in patentable work Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent to ensure the team remains on track Complete ability searches regularly Solve client challenges and respond to client needs Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Consistently meet billable hour requirements Competencies: Decision Making - Identifies issues and provides suggestions to day-to-day problems; prioritizes and effectively completes daily tasks Communication - Shares information by using data and information to support an argument or point of view; keeps team informed about progress and problems; avoids surprises; and understands the appropriate level of confidentiality required Leadership - Gives positive and constructive feedback to peers; trains new employees; finds solutions to a problem; works autonomously; and is motivated to anticipate future business needs Continuous Learning - Attends required training; accepts planned change willingly Teamwork - Works as a member of the team, and understands the goals of the team; understands that team members’ needs, ideas and solutions vary Alignment to Values - Is aware of the Firm’s values and consistently demonstrates them; is aware of the meaning/strategic goal of the Firm’s Diversity & Inclusion values; has a deep understanding of one’s own core functions Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science Required Licenses and/or Certifications: USPTO Registration required Required Experience: 1 year of professional experience Preferred Experience: 2+ years of experience Physical Activity: The employee will be required to sit for prolonged periods and work on a computer.
