Who We Are The Mission of the Denver District Attorney's Office is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and humane administration of justice. The office employs approximately 100 attorneys and 150 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is Beth McCann. What You’ll Do We are currently seeking an Associate level Deputy District Attorney who can perform professional legal work in the prosecution of cases in Denver County Courts representing the People of the State of Colorado. The Associate Deputy District Attorney position will be responsible for: <ul> <li> Maintain a felony caseload, including making appropriate plea offers, litigating motions and preparing cases for trial </li> <li> Preparing and conducting motions hearings and trials on misdemeanor and traffic offenses and, when appropriate, serves as co-counsel on felony cases as well </li> <li> Reviewing criminal case files including police reports, evidence, witness statements, criminal histories and victim input and determines appropriate plea offers for said cases </li> <li> Presenting evidence, argues motions for suppression and other legal motions, conducts jury selection, direct and cross-examination of witnesses and opening and closing arguments in court. Performs research and writing for legal briefs, motions and pleadings </li> <li> Assisting victims of crime through the criminal justice system and communicates with victims and witnesses on cases in which they are involved </li> <li> Periodically serving on call to provide legal advice to law enforcement agencies and answer immediate questions from the public </li> <li> Performing other duties as assigned or requested by the District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney </li> </ul> About You What You’ll Bring The ideal candidate will posses some or all the following skills and experience: <ul> <li> Has three three to six years of experience in District Court</li> </ul> Required Minimum Qualifications We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: <ul> <li> Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Laws Degree</li> <li> Experience: None</li> <li> Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted</li> <li> License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application</li> </ul> Application Deadline Applications for this position are accepted on a rolling basis.
