New York Life is a relationship-based company and appreciates how both virtual and in-person interactions support our culture.</p> <div></div> <p><b><br> Assistant General Counsel, Life Insurance Products</b></p> <p></p> <p><b><br> Job Summary</b></p> <p> The life insurance unit of the Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice with respect to traditional life insurance products and other matters of insurance law connected with the life insurance business. In this challenging role, the Assistant General Counsel will work as an integral member of the Office of the General Counsel’s life insurance team. This is a unique opportunity for a top-notch lawyer to work with a wide range of senior business partners and lawyers, and to gain both a theoretical and a pragmatic understanding of the insurance law and life insurance products.</p> <p><br> </p> <p><b>Primary Duties and Responsibilities</b></p> <p> Provide assistance in all of the following as may be required:</p> <ul> <li> Provide advice and any other assistance on a broad range of regulatory matters affecting the development, administration and marketing of life insurance products.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Work closely with the product development, legal and compliance teams to draft, file and gain regulatory approval of new life insurance products.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Analyze marketing material and sales illustrations for compliance under applicable insurance regulations.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Provide legal counsel on issues affecting the administration of in-force life insurance business.</li> <li> Advise on responses to market conduct exams and other regulatory inquiries pertaining to the traditional life insurance business.</li> <li> Research and advise on legislative and regulatory matters impacting the traditional life insurance business.</li> <li> Provide legal advice on service initiatives and electronic commerce for insurance transactions.</li> <li> Perform legal research and write legal memoranda.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><br> <b>Required Experience </b></p> <ul> <li>JD required.</li> <li> Admission to the New York State Bar.</li> <li> 3 - 5 years’ experience practicing corporate law, insurance industry and regulatory experience preferred.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> Required Skills and Qualifications</b><b> </b></p> <ul> <li>Superior written and oral communications skills with the ability to summarize complex legal matters concisely and accurately.</li> <li> Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence and the ability to liaison effectively with business partners.</li> <li> Superior proofreading skills and the ability to edit documents and suggest improvements to existing material.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> A well-balanced consultative approach and the ability to work with business and legal colleagues across all levels.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Demonstrated ability to approach issues with both a rigorous attention to detail and a big picture strategic focus.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Strong cross-functional risk spotting skills.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Proven record of prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> High level of integrity with strong decision-making skills.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.</li> </ul> <ul> <li> Ability and experience making independent decisions as well as taking reasonable risks.</li> </ul> <p></p> <p><b><br> #LI-KV1</b></p> <p><b> #LI-HYBRID</b></p> <p></p> <p><b><br> Salary range:</b> $132,500-$197,500</p> <p><b> Overtime eligible:</b> Exempt</p> <p><b> Discretionary bonus eligible:</b> Yes</p> <p><b> Sales bonus eligible:</b> No</p> <p></p> <p><br> Click here to learn more about our benefits.
