Job Description Fragomen’s Toronto office is seeking a US Immigration Lawyer, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills and have a strong understanding of US immigration In this role you will be working in a fast-paced environment, providing US legal advice in connection with US Consular Services in the Americas region. More specifically, you will provide legal advice to Fragomen offices in connection with US Consular Services (NIV and IV appointment preparation, trouble-shooting) throughout the America’s. Key job duties include: Communicate with client and colleagues on complex Consular case matters, including refusal risks, processing trends, and criminal matters. Liaise with US Embassies and Consulates. Manage allocated client accounts and their active and inactive matters. Supervise the work of caseworkers/analysts. Troubleshoot and establish case strategy. Review of documents sent in by assignees and flag any issues to clients. Review documents drafted by caseworkers/analysts to ensure legal compliance and quality standards are met. Draft correspondence to a client on complex matters. Displays professionalism, quality service and a “positive” attitude to internal members and departments of the Firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, telephone and in person. Key job requirements include: US immigration license; Canadian bar admission is also an asset; A minimum of five years of experience as an immigration lawyer (post bar admission); with a focus on Consular. Ability to identify legal issues, analyze facts and determine appropriate case strategy; Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; Experience with high-volume, corporate clientele and managing a wide-ranging case load in a fast-paced environment; Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and staff; Ability to effectively utilize on-line case management and legal research tools; Ability to display professionalism, quality service and a “positive” attitude.
