GEICO is looking for an experienced legal professional to support our insurance business units as a legal advisor. Your role will be to support the business as they develop new products or ways of doing business and refine their work. You’ll do this by gaining a strong understanding of the business unit(s) you support, their product(s), their goals and their plans, then advising on legal requirements in language appropriate for smart businesspeople who don’t have a legal background. You’ll collaborate with other attorneys on your team to ensure the support the business, and when your business unit needs specialized legal expertise, you’ll coordinate with your colleagues in the legal department who have specialized skills to make sure your business unit gets the support it needs to excel.

Primary Responsibilities:
</div>
<ul>

Under general supervision, provide advice and propose solutions for problems that arise in the insurance business units
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Provide legal advice related to business unit’s plans and anticipate future legal needs
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Coordinate support for assigned business units with your team and from other parts of the legal department
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Use wide range of legal knowledge to issue and spot any implications of business choice that could interact with multiple legal subject areas such as privacy, insurance compliance, consumer-protection laws, intellectual property, and contractual obligations
</div></li>

<br> Basic Qualifications:
</div>
<ul>
<li>
<div>
Strongly prefers candidates to have at least 2 years of experience at a law firm or in-house, preferably serving as a legal advisor for businesses providing services primarily to consumers or small businesses
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Experience working in property & casualty insurance, financial services, or other regulated services industries preferred
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Fluent in English; Spanish is a plus - speaking and writing
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Must have a law degree and an active law license to practice in the United States of America
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Strong listening and communication skills
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Ability to quickly digest and understand business plans, processes, and procedures
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Ability to provide legal advice with incomplete information
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Superb judgement about legal and legal-adjacent risks as well as mitigation opportunities
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Must be solution oriented
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Preferred to have experience in product counseling or as a product attorney
</div></li>
<li>
<div>
Must have demonstrated experience solving business problems and advancing business metrics
</div></li>
</ul>

<br> Location: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work 2-3 days onsite at our Chevy Chase, MD location
