PHENND Fellows-PA Law Education Program Coordinator

AmeriCorps

Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts is a statewide nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all Pennsylvanians can come to our courts with confidence that they will be heard by qualified, fair and impartial judges. The PHENND Fellow will play a leadership role in implementing our groundbreaking community outreach and civic education program, PMC in the Community, in seven underserved counties outside Philadelphia: Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton (Lehigh Valley), Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware. PMC in the Community is a three-part program for court users living in poverty, focused on closing the justice gap in communities: PMC Shares, a community outreach initiative that provides free legal workshops for court users; PMC Watches, a volunteer-run court monitoring program designed to increase transparency and accountability in the judicial system; and PMC Listens, a 24-hour helpline for pro se litigants and other people seeking information about our courts.

Member Duties : The PHENND Fellow will build and maintain relationships with local communities to hold informational workshops on the court system, assess areas for improvement in any court-related legal resources and partner with volunteer attorneys, judges, activists and community leaders to address the legal needs of each community. Furthermore, the PHENND Fellow will expand our PMC Watches program, training and managing volunteers to observe court cases, analyzing and evaluating collected data and reporting on court issues. The Fellow will initiate new partnerships with Philadelphia law schools to grow our volunteer base and look to start observation programs within other courts in the Philadelphia area. All PHENND Fellows will receive extensive professional development as a cohort, in addition to site specific training. PHENND Fellows participate in monthly diversity/equity training and additional monthly programming with other VISTA programs.

Program Benefits : Health Coverage* , Relocation Allowance , SEPTA Monthly Transportation Pass , Education award upon successful completion of service , Stipend , Childcare assistance if eligible , Living Allowance , Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend , Training .

Terms :
Permits attendance at school during off hours , Car recommended , Permits working at another job during off hours .

Service Areas :
Community Outreach .

Skills :
Law , Community Organization , Fund raising/Grant Writing , General Skills , Public Speaking , Leadership , Team Work , Communications , Conflict Resolution .

SUMMARY
Program Type:
AmeriCorps VISTA

Program
PHENND Fellows-PA Law Education Program Coordinator

Program Start/End Date
08/12/2024 - 08/11/2025

Work Schedule Full Time

Education level
Some college

Age Requirement
Minimum: 18 Maximum: None

Program Locations PENNSYLVANIA Philadelphia/Wilmington/Atlantic City

Accepting Applications
From 03/01/2024 To 05/31/2024

Contact Roslynn Blount
3440 Market St
Philadelphia PA 19104
2155732379
roslynnb@phennd.org
www.phennd.org

Listing ID 121980
