The salary range for this position is $84,540-109,366/year, based on experience and education. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days. </div> <div></div> <div> What You’ll Do </div> <div> The Denver City Attorney’s Office is one of the largest law firms in Colorado, with over 240 attorneys and staff members comprised of paralegals, victim advocates, and other support and supervisory staff members. Clients include the Mayor, City Council, all other elected and appointed officials, all city agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and employees. </div> <div></div> <div> <div> Denver Human Services </div> (DHS) promotes the well-being, protection, and independence of Denver residents through its many services for low-income and at-risk families, children, seniors, and other adults. DHS is the County-administered and State-supervised vehicle for helping people in need and/or to those who need protection from abuse and neglect in Denver which constitutes an approximate $300 million operation with approximately 1,200 employees. DHS serves approximately 175,000 people each year, in assistance programs including abused and neglected children and their families, and people who are elderly, homeless, disabled or otherwise in need. DDHS helps gather the financial and social resources to connect our clients to the community and enable them to live healthier, safer lives. </div> <div></div> <div> The Denver City's Attorney's Office is seeking an Entry level Assistant City Attorney for the Child Welfare and Youth Services Unit of the Department of Law's Human Services Legal Services Section. This City Attorney provides legal representation to Denver Human Services social workers and administrators in Dependency and Neglect and Juvenile Delinquency cases in state trial and appellate courts. In addition to appearing in court, the attorney attends collaborative, multi-disciplinary meetings to guide decisions for the treatment and placement of families, children, and youth. We seek an attorney interested in Juvenile law. Our attorneys regularly appear in all state courts, including Denver Juvenile Court. </div> <div></div> <div> Job Responsibilities: </div> <ul> <li> <div> Consultation and representation of Denver Human Services in all stages of Dependency and Neglect litigation. </div></li> <li> <div> Preparing social workers to appear in Juvenile Delinquency hearings, such as those in Denver Juvenile Court and other Colorado District Courts, developing motions, carrying out discovery, and representing the City in those proceedings, as well as corresponding appellate briefing and argument. </div></li> <li> <div> Negotiating and preparing settlement agreements and other legal documents as necessary </div></li> <li> <div> Collaborating with other stakeholders in Juvenile Delinquency cases to develop recommendations </div></li> <li> <div> Drafting and preparing memoranda, motions, briefs and pleadings to be filed in judicial or quasi-judicial proceedings </div></li> <li> <div> Conducting or providing feedback and advice with legal research </div></li> <li> <div> Assisting attorneys working in specialized areas with litigation, research and related activities </div></li> <li> <div> Performing other related duties as assigned or requested </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> About You </div> <div></div> <div> What You’ll Bring </div> <div> Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: </div> <ul> <li> <div> Experience/knowledge/classwork in juvenile law. </div></li> <li> <div> Time spent as an intern or clerk in a juvenile law court or practice </div></li> <li> <div> Mediation experience and/or a mediation certificate </div></li> <li> <div> Experience in Youth Programs. </div></li> <li> <div> An undergraduate degree or minor in Social Work, Juvenile Justice, Sociology and Political Science. </div></li> <li> <div> A background working with neighborhood or restorative justice programs. </div></li> <li> <div> Experience with programs connected to the Dept. of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). </div></li> <li> <div> A strong commitment to public service. </div></li> <li> <div> Strong written and oral advocacy skills. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Required Minimum Qualifications </div> <ul> <li> <div> Education requirement: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Laws Degree. </div></li> <li> <div> Experience Requirement: None </div></li> <li> <div> Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. </div></li> <li> <div> License/Certification: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire or a reasonable expectation of becoming licensed by the Colorado Supreme Court by the date of hire in accordance with C.R.C.P. 203.2, 203.3, 203.4 and 205.6. </div></li> <li> <div> Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> To be considered for this position, you must include the following on your job application (upload the attachment(s) to the Resume/CV section on the My Experience tab): </div> <ul> <li> <div> Cover Letter (preferred, not required) </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Application Deadline </div> <div> This posting will accept applications until 11:59 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
