At the direction of the partners in the U.S. Private Equity practice and in collaboration with the Business Development and Practice Management teams, the Knowledge Management Counsel (“KMC”) will take the lead in developing, managing and delivering a portfolio of market intelligence and knowledge management assets, resources and services for the U.S. private equity practice, and will have a significant role in the creation, development and maintenance of client-facing materials for the private equity practice. In short, the KMC will be the ‘hub of the wheel’ in promoting and facilitating the sharing of legal knowledge, market developments and best practices and making sure that the firm and its private equity partners leverage internal resources and market developments. This role will work in close coordination with the partners in the practice and the firm’s senior Business Services professionals to help optimize collection and communication of legal and market developments and ensure that these developments are appropriately tracked and maintained. In addition to the primary focus on private equity clients and transactions, this role will also collaborate with the firm’s broader M&A practice to ensure coordination of resources. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor current legal, market, regulatory and industry developments relevant to private equity clients, inform attorneys and business services professionals of these developments through targeted communications and ensure internal resources are updated accordingly. Contribute to client pitches with respect to market trends, contemplated deal structures, transaction approaches and portfolio company considerations. Understand the suite of marketing and client development materials utilized by the private equity practice and ensure that these materials remain up to date and at the cutting edge of market developments. Draft and assist with private equity-focused content marketing, including white papers, videos and social media posts. Collaborate with key partners, Attorney Development and Practice Management to develop substantive legal training curricula, assist with program materials, and conduct trainings on issues and trends in private equity. Build upon transaction closing processes to collect and organize precedent documents and collaborate with Business Development to leverage materials for client and market intelligence. Identify and evaluate new technology products for deal execution efficiencies and, where appropriate, work with technology team to implement new tools. Work on other special projects as assigned. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: In-depth understanding of private equity practice and familiarity with hot topics in private equity Familiarity with online resources and publications Strategic, proactive, analytical thinker with excellent business acumen and ability to problem solve Positive, high-energy, proactive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills, results-oriented initiative and judgment Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively share and organize substantive knowledge Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with attorneys and business services teams Ability to prioritize and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities High responsiveness and attention to detail Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of all information, and adhering to the Firm’s Core Values Ability to read, write and speak English Advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and ability to work in various software applications as needed. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree, J.D. and Bar Admission required At least 6 years of experience as a practicing corporate lawyer with a focus on private equity transactions PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: See, hear and speak Ability to lift up to 10 lbs (e.g., office files, etc.) Duties are performed using repetitive finger, hand and arm movements Duties require fine manipulation (typing) Duties require simple grasping (files, documents, telephone, writing instruments) Duties may require combinations of the above movements This position is required to be available to work in person. All employees are required to comply with the firm’s employment policies. The base salary range for this position in New York City is $225,000-$260,000 depending on experience.
