Summary As a Pro Bono Counsel - International, you will assist with New Perimeter, DLA Piper’s nonprofit affiliate focused on global pro bono, in developing and managing long-term pro bono projects around the world. New Perimeter’s mission is to advance justice and strengthen institutions to support a fairer, more sustainable, and prosperous world. Location This position can sit in our Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh, Short Hills, Wilmington, New York, or Washington, D.C. office and offers a hybrid work schedule. 25% of the time for travel is expected. Responsibilities Develops long-term pro bono projects in developing regions around the world in collaboration with non-profit organizations, multilateral institutions, academic institutions and governments. Helps to recruit and manage international teams of DLA Piper lawyers working on New Perimeter pro bono projects focused on women’s advancement, climate protection, access to justice, social and economic development, and sound legal institutions. Helps advance the strategic direction of New Perimeter program in close collaboration with New Perimeter Directors. Develops and manages comparative international legal research projects. Conducts due diligence to understand all aspects of clients’ needs and internal conflicts checks. Travels internationally, as needed, to help manage New Perimeter projects. Supports collaborative pro bono projects with key DLA Piper corporate clients. Drafts and edits marketing pieces, including newsletter, internal/external website, and brochures. Works collaboratively with the Project Manager and Marketing Department to ensure literature meets firm standards. Represents the firm and New Perimeter at internal and external events to increase profile and awareness about the program. Other duties as assigned. Desired Skills International experience and the ability to collaborate with a diverse array of stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. Commitment to New Perimeter’s mission. Prior experience with an organization that provides global legal pro bono services helpful. Must have strong project management skills and experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Cultural sensitivity and awareness. Professional demeanor to interact regularly with external clients. Strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional comparative legal research and international legal frameworks. Solid computer skills in Word/Excel and PowerPoint. Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus. The compensation offered for employment will also be dependent on other factors including the candidate’s experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications.
