CLC’s policy work is outcome-oriented and involves legislative, budget, and administrative advocacy. </div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <br> The Housing Focused Policy Attorney leads our housing policy work. CLC’s housing policy portfolio includes working with partners across the city to advocate for healthier housing that is free from mold, lead, and other health-harming conditions; and demanding better oversight over government agencies and officials responsible for enforcing health- and safety-related housing codes; advocating for an improved homeless services system for homeless families; and seeking increased investments in permanent affordable housing supports for families – among many other issues. </div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <p><b><br> Supervisory Responsibilities</b></p> </div> </div> <div> <div> <ul> <li> Periodic supervision of clerks and interns.</li> </ul> </div> <div> <div> <p><b> Job Responsibilities</b></p> </div> </div> <div> <div> The Policy Attorney works closely with the other policy attorneys on the team and works with staff in our core, direct services programs in order to implement strategies for improving the laws, policies and programs which affect our client community. </div> </div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <div> <br> The Policy Attorney’s duties include: drafting letters, memoranda, proposed legislation and other policy and legal documents; attending meetings and participating in collaborative projects with agencies, child advocacy and legal service groups; lobbying the City Council, Mayor’s Office and agencies on policy initiatives; and identifying, researching and recommending strategy choices and positions for CLC. </div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <p><b><br> Qualifications</b></p> </div> <ul> <li> The position requires a demonstrated commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of low-income children and families.</li> <li> Experience working on housing policy in the District of Columbia is strongly preferred</li> <li> Experience working with low- income families or youth is preferred.</li> <li> An ideal candidate will have systemic advocacy experience; outstanding verbal and written communication skills; excellent research and analytical skills; demonstrated capacity to work independently; and demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively.</li> <li> Three to five years of relevant experience is preferred.</li> </ul> </div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <p><b><br> Required Skills and Experience</b></p> <ul> <li> J.D. and membership in the bar of any U.S. state or Washington D.C. required.</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> <p><b> Salary and Benefits</b></p> <p> The salary for this position ranges from $60,000- $72,284 annually for applicants with 0-5 years’ relevant experience. Children’s Law Center offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability insurance; employer-provided retirement contributions; flexible spending plans; and vacation, sick, holiday, family and medical leave. All employees are expected spend time both working remotely and working in-person from Children's Law Center's office. Hybrid working expectations vary depending upon role and program responsibilities.</p> <p><b> Vaccine Mandate</b></p> <p> D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has required that government employees receive the COVID-19 vaccine and all eligible booster shots or be granted medical or religious exemption from the mandate. Due to some of our grant funding and partnerships, Children’s Law Center must follow this mandate.
