Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world. </div> <div></div> <div> Requirements </div> <div></div> <div> Staff Attorney, Health Justice Alliance - Georgetown University Law Center </div> <div></div> <div> Georgetown’s <div> Health Justice Alliance (HJA) </div> / <div> Perinatal LAW Project </div> is a medical-legal partnership that provides no-cost legal services to perinatal patients receiving care at Women’s and Infants’ Services (WIS) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. It includes a range of inter-professional education, service, and research initiatives designed to address health and justice disparities faced by vulnerable communities in DC . </div> <div></div> <div> Job Overview </div> <div></div> <div> The Staff Attorney provides direct legal services to pregnant patients and newborns, providing education and training to students and providers, engaging in community outreach and education, and contributing to the data collection and research. </div> <div></div> <div> Work Interactions </div> <div></div> <div> Reporting directly to the Faculty Director of the HJA, the Staff Attorney is supervised day-to-day by the MLP Director of the Perinatal LAW Project, works with the MLP Director of the Perinatal LAW Project, and collaborates closely with other HJA members, including the HJA’s Faculty Director, Director of Operations, and Director of Research and Evaluation, as well as with the attorneys in HJA’s Cancer LAW Project. </div> <div></div> <div> While no direct reports are anticipated, the Staff Attorney may supervise and mentor Georgetown University Law Center students and oversee graduate fellows as needed; and plays a significant role in ensuring that the program and delivery of legal services are responsive to the needs of perinatal patients. </div> <div></div> <div> Qualifications </div> <ul> <li> J.D. from an accredited law school</li> <li> Up to 2 years of post-J.D. legal experience providing civil legal housing related services to low-income clients</li> <li> Membership or ability to waive into the District of Columbia Bar</li> <li> Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with doctors, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers to address patients’ health-harming legal needs and to leverage medical expertise to advance legal advocacy at the individual and community level</li> <li> Demonstrated commitment to social justice and service to vulnerable clients</li> <li> Interest in contributing to the data and other research focused on measuring the impact of medical-legal partnership on health and legal outcomes</li> <li> Willingness to develop legal expertise as needed and to travel between local clinical sites</li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Preferred qualifications </div> <ul> <li> Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) experience or experience building new legal aid programs or expanding existing ones</li> <li> Experience training healthcare providers on areas of law impacting their patients</li> <li> Expertise in one or more of the following areas of law: family law, public benefits, and employment</li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Work Mode: Hybrid.
