Pro Bono Unit Staff Attorney

<b>Atlanta Legal Aid Society </b>(“Legal Aid”) seeks a <b>Staff Attorney</b> to work in its <b>Pro Bono Unit </b>located in downtown Atlanta. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law. The Pro Bono Unit is currently comprised of a managing attorney and two full-time paralegals. The staff in this unit manage pro bono projects in our five-county service area and provide support and strategic planning for all pro bono staff at Legal Aid. <br> <b> Responsibilities</b>: <ul> <li> The Pro Bono Unit Staff Attorney will engage in a range of activities including coordinating our Gender-Affirming Name Change Project;</li> <li> advocacy;</li> <li> relationship-building;</li> <li> developing limited scope pro bono opportunities;</li> <li> developing materials to promote projects;</li> <li> recruiting, training, placing cases with, providing substantive support to, and managing volunteer attorneys;</li> <li> networking with private attorneys;</li> <li> and other related responsibilities.</li> <li> Travel to and remote work in our other offices located throughout metro Atlanta is required.</li> </ul> <b><br> Qualifications:</b> <br> <b>A Georgia bar license or eligibility for the next Georgia bar exam</b>, and at least<b> three years of experience</b> litigating in various legal forums is required. Applicants must possess excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills, strong communication and listening skills, a strong work ethic, the ability to adapt to changing work pressures, the ability to work in a team and alone, and appreciation of diverse staff and clients. Previous work promoting pro bono with a law firm or legal services organization; a demonstrated commitment to public service; participation in law school clinics and pro bono projects; familiarity with poverty law; and previous work with low-income people are preferred. Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued. <br> <b> Salary and Benefits:</b> <br> The salary is <b>$59,600+ depending on experience</b>. Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. The program provides generous fringe benefits including 13 paid holidays, 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match; and Georgia Bar and CLE expenses.
