Description
The ideal candidate will have at 2+ years of patent prosecution experience, including but not limited to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, managing global patent portfolios, client counseling, and opinion development. Practical experience and an in-depth knowledge of Biology or Biotechnology is required. Some litigation (district court and/or at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board) and/or some IP licensing experience is preferred but not required. A keen interest in litigation is required. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. or MS in a biology discipline (e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, or biotechnology) 2+ years of research experience in a biology discipline 2+ years previous IP law experience Some litigation (district court and/or at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board) and/or some IP licensing experience is preferred but not required A keen interest in litigation is required Superior academic record, excellent written and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities Highly motivated and results-oriented Active USPTO Registration Good standing in the bar(s) where licensed to practice law Superior technical, verbal, and written communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and resolve conflicting workload assignments, and adapt to changing conditions ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Counseling clients on effective IP strategy options Patent procurement activities, including: Preparation and prosecution of complex patent applications Prosecuting a global patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions by instructing foreign patent counsel in the prosecution of foreign counterpart applications Consulting with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers Providing litigation support (both district court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board), including analyzing patent claims and related art and products, preparing claim charts and similar work product, legal research, brief drafting Conduct IP related due diligence for opinions, including patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement and invalidity analyses Willingness to learn and assist with licensing matters Panitch Schwarze offers work-life balance initiatives, remote work, competitive salary, benefits, time off, bonus and client origination programs.
