The Senior Counsel operates as part of the global corporate Privacy team and collaborates with key legal and business stakeholders in the regional business units to ensure adherence to laws and regulations, and embed standards, controls, policies, compliance metrics and overall governance.</p> <p></p> <h1 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> What are we looking for?</b></h1> <ul> <li><p> Law degree from an accredited university in the US</p></li> <li><p> Licensed to practice law in relevant US state</p></li> <li><p> Undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree</p></li> <li><p> 10-15 years of legal experience</p></li> <li><p> Experience in data privacy and security required</p></li> <li><p> Expertise in advising on data protection, privacy and security compliance in the United States, including significant substantive knowledge of state comprehensive privacy and breach notification laws, COPAA and HIPAA;</p></li> <li><p> Expertise in advising on privacy compliance aspects of marketing and adtech, including CAN-SPAM, TCPA and privacy regulations;</p></li> <li><p> Comfort with emerging regulations around use of artificial intelligence and biometric data;</p></li> <li><p> Preferred candidate has regional expertise, including familiarity with data protection laws in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and other countries in Central and South America.</p></li> <li><p> Preferred candidate has CIPP certification;</p></li> <li><p> Preferred candidate has experience working with or in the privacy or compliance function of a decentralized global organization, especially in the CPG sector.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <h1 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> What will be your key responsibilities?</b></h1> <ul> <li><p> Focuses on support of the design and execution of Mars' Global Data Privacy Program strategy and governance in alignment with legal and regulatory expectations.</p></li> <li><p> Manages regional data privacy functions including conducting data privacy impact assessments, advising on responses to data subject access requests, responding to privacy and security data incidents, and supporting privacy and compliance elements of third-party management.</p></li> <li><p> Monitors regulatory developments in relevant risk areas and provide concise updates to key stakeholders.</p></li> <li><p> Serves as a strategic and tactical legal resource to provide clear, concise, and accurate guidance; advises on complex legal issues related to specific risk areas.</p></li> <li><p> Acts as regional lead on privacy and compliance issues related to corporate integration and divestiture actions.</p></li> <li><p> Contributes to global risk management and continued development of data privacy program. </p></li> <li><p>Collaborates with other corporate functions to identify and manage risk, including Information Security, Digital Technologies, Legal, Internal Audit, and Risk.</p></li> <li><p> Works with stakeholder functions and segments to design verification measures and procedures related to risk-mitigating controls.</p></li> <li><p> Coordinates with Internal Audit to conduct internal assessments and monitoring activities.</p></li> <li><p> Coordinates large scale projects from inception through completion.</p></li> <li><p> Identifies and elevates issues; supports the Chief Privacy Officer as needed.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <h1 class="jobSectionHeader"><b> What can you expect from Mars?</b></h1> <ul> <li><p> Work with over 130,000 diverse and talented Associates, all guided by the Five Principles.</p></li> <li><p> Join a purpose driven company, where we’re striving to build the world we want tomorrow, today.</p></li> <li><p> Best-in-class learning and development support from day one, including access to our in-house Mars University.</p></li> <li><p> An industry competitive salary and benefits package, including company bonus.</p></li> </ul> <p></p> <p> #LI-Hybrid</p> <p></p> <p> Mars is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
