appear as a special assistant Attorney General representing the Department in
Juvenile Court proceedings, with an emphasis on child welfare and youth
rehabilitation treatment proceedings. This may include special handling of
appeals.

Hiring Rate: $34.50 with 5% increase after successful completion of probation
period. Negotiable; commensurate with education and/or experience, if
approved.
**Examples of Work**
Department in juvenile court proceedings, with an emphasis on child welfare
proceedings. This position may provide litigation support to the agency and
Attorney General's Office, as needed, which may include the handling of
appeals filed with the Nebraska appellate courts on behalf of the agency. This
courtroom attorney may conduct privilege reviews for compliance with public
records requests and discovery requests, as needed.
**Qualifications / Requirements**
REQUIREMENTS: Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and
providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients,
and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies.
Legal Requirements: In accordance with Section 7-101, Nebraska Revised,
Reissued Statutes of l943, incumbents in this class must be admitted to the
Nebraska Bar.
Special Note: Candidates who have obtained a Juris Doctor degree but are not
licensed to practice law in Nebraska may be considered for provisional
employment for up to six months. Any such provisional employment must occur
within or coincide with a probationary period in accordance with Title 273,
Nebraska Administrative Code, Chapter 6. Licensure to practice law in the
state of Nebraska must be obtained within the probationary period for
continued employment. Such candidates may not perform those job duties that
require a license to practice law until such proper licensure is obtained.
PREFERRED: Experience appearing as an attorney in juvenile court proceedings;
juvenile court experience in Nebraska is preferred but not required
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Ability to: provide legal support
to the agency in juvenile court proceedings; interpret and apply statutes,
case law, decisions of court/administrative hearings, federal and state
regulations, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal
issues; effectively communicate and interact with legal associates, other
government employees, and the public; conduct legal research; formulate legal
opinions and recommendations based on legal research; identify critical
elements of legal questions or issues; and use a computer for word processing
and research.
