<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-JobComponent-description css-16y4thd eu4oa1w0"><div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <b>Summary:</b> The Legal Counsel – HR/Med Staff/Litigation position works closely with Parkview’s Human Resources Department to provide support on employment law related matters as needed. Also responsible for oversight of assigned pre-litigation disputes, administrative proceedings and litigation associated with Parkview Health facilities, staff, and patients that are not related to malpractice or risk events, such as guardianship hearings, employment litigation and EEOC/Metro administrative proceedings, consumer complaints, general business litigation, and medical staff hearings, in addition to assisting with non-party litigation requests received by Parkview. Works closely with all the Hospitals’ Chief Medical Officers and provides legal support for hospital medical staff issues and peer review matters, as well as provides day-to-day legal guidance on operational and patient care related matters such as consent, guardianships, end-of-life issues, and release of information. Provides legal assistance as needed to all Parkview Health facilities on licensing, accreditation, and regulatory matters and works collaboratively with the Corporate Risk Management Director to provide legal support to the Risk Management team, as needed. Collaborates with leadership and staff at all levels to ensure there is an appropriate and thorough review of any identified issues followed by an appropriate resolution and oversees and manages outside counsel when engaged to assist with any of the activities associated with this position. Keeps abreast of all legal and regulatory changes, issues, and proposals that impact Parkview for any of these subjects and keeps leadership informed of the impact of any potential or approved changes. Provides legal assistance on other topics and to other areas in the Health System as needed. </div> <div></div> <div> <b>Education:</b> Must have a Bachelor’s Degree and Law Degree. </div> <div></div> <div> <b>Licensure/Certification:</b> Must be licensed to practice law in Indiana. </div> <div></div> <div> <b>Experience:</b> Must have a minimum of five (5) years of legal practice experience, preferably in health care law, employment law and litigation. Additional years of legal practice experience is preferred for this position. Requires experience overseeing and managing outside counsel and the expenses associated with legal representation. Requires litigation experience. Must have solid verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work collaboratively with multi- disciplinary teams across the health system, including physicians, nurses and other providers. Requires broad knowledge of State and Federal employment laws, hospital peer review laws and healthcare laws.
