Office Location: Milwaukee, WI Our practice is growing, and we have an excellent opportunity for an experienced attorney to join the firm’s Data Privacy & Cybersecurity group. The position requires a keen interest in data privacy/cybersecurity law coupled with a desire to work collaboratively to deliver thought leadership and best-in-class service to our clients. The candidate will support, develop, and help lead all phases of the practice group’s work. The primary focus will be advising clients in the implementation of cybersecurity and privacy compliance programs, breach response, regulatory investigation response, and M&A due diligence. There is also an opportunity to play a leadership role in developing the firm’s artificial intelligence practice further. The practice group is highly entrepreneurial and values independent thinkers with the drive, intellectual curiosity, and vision to maintain a leading practice in the Midwest. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead clients in the implementation of data privacy and cybersecurity programs. Advise clients on data privacy and security laws, including CCPA (and other various state privacy laws), GDPR, the EU AI Act, HIPAA, GLBA, consumer protection, and similar state laws and regulations. Support clients in responding to cybersecurity incidents and data breaches. Lend subject matter support on mergers and acquisitions, including data privacy and cybersecurity due diligence. Advise clients in developing AI data governance plans. Negotiate technology agreements with respect to data privacy, data sharing, and information security. Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of the team’s strategic plan. Participate in new client development and marketing activities, including both internal and external writings and presentations on emergent industry trends and development of best practices. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: J.D. from an ABA accredited law school Admitted to practice or eligible for admission to practice in the State of Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will have: At least 4 years of legal experience at a leading law firm or comparable in-house counsel position. Certified Information Privacy Professional Certification (e.g. CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or CIPM). Experience working in cybersecurity, or privacy industry is a plus. A desire to nerd-out on legal issues in data privacy and cybersecurity. Interest or experience in artificial intelligence privacy regulations such as the EU AI Act is a plus. Superior organizational and time management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a team, with a desire for contributing to organizational growth and developing preeminent thought leadership. Proven ability to work within a fast-paced team environment. Dedication to contributing to client success in a collaborative team environment.
