One of the largest full-service intellectual property law firms in the U.S., seeks a patent agent to work remotely and/or from any of the firm’s five offices: Hartford, Connecticut; Alexandria, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Houston, Texas; and Troy, Michigan. Cantor Colburn offers the full range of IP legal services, with particular strength in patent matters: the firm is ranked #4 for utility and #5 for design patents, handling matters for clients in virtually all technologies. In addition to patent preparation and prosecution, Cantor Colburn offers counseling and representation in portfolio management, opinion rendering, due diligence in IP transactions, agreements and licensing, anticounterfeiting, trade secrets, post grant proceedings and litigation services. The firm’s clients are among the leading companies in the U.S. and around the world, including Fortune 100 companies, privately-held companies, select high-tech start-ups, government research institutes and university technology transfer offices. The successful candidate will have patent experience, such as the preparation and prosecution of chemistry or materials science related patent applications, patentability, state-of-the-art, infringement, validity search and analyses, or patent opinions. A degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science and engineering is required as well as an understanding of how materials (e.g., metals, polymers, catalytic materials, ceramics, liquid crystals, composites) are used in a broad range of applications (e.g., batteries, fuel cells, electronics, biotechnology, or nanotechnology) employing modern processing and discovery principles (e.g., casting, additive manufacturing, coating, evaporation, plasma and radiation processing, artificial intelligence, and computer simulations). An advanced degree or equivalent experience in the field of materials science is strongly preferred. Candidates must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
