We currently have an exciting opportunity for a financial services regulatory lawyer with at least 2 years’ experience to join our Corporate Regulatory group in Sydney to work on financial services regulatory and corporate and commercial matters. Our Corporate Regulatory group works on significant financial services regulatory matters for a range of companies. Our clients include leading global insurers and reinsurers, global insurance brokers, superannauation funds and a range of multinational companies that distribute financial services products. We advise on, and execute, strategic transactions including traditional share/business sales, and insurance specific transactions such as portfolio transfer transactions and reinsurance transactions. We also provide corporate and commercial legal advice to clients across our key sectors of insurance, transport, energy, marine and natural resources and construction. Our team includes the most highly regarded financial services regulatory partners in the Australian market consistently ranked at the top of the industry by the world’s leading legal directories. You will also have the opportunity to work with our global offices across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia. The successful candidate will be involved in the following work: advising clients on complex financial services regulatory and compliance issues in both contentious and non-contentious contexts; advising clients on corporate governance arrangements and on various commercial agreements; drafting and negotiating key transaction documents and providing advice on areas of legal risk for clients; project managing transactions including working closely with our offices across the world to deliver an integrated service to our clients; managing and building external client relationships, including assisting with business development activities for key existing clients and new clients; mentoring junior associates in the team and assisting with providing training to junior associates both in the team and across the firm; and working with our global offices on financial services regulatory matters and transactions, including regulatory approval processes. Key Skills & Experience This key requirement of this role is that you have solid financial services regulatory advice experience, gained from private practice and/or an in-house role. An understanding of the specific regulatory and compliance environment in which the general and life insurance industries operate would be preferable. We would also be interested in candidates with strong corporate advisory or commercial experience. You should have a genuine desire to build on and expand your skillset into dealing with regulatory and transactional matters that arise in highly regulated sectors. You will need to demonstrate relevant experience, strong academics, be self-driven, have excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
