The General Counsel will be a full-time or reduced-time employee who will oversee and act as ethics, conflicts, risk management, and claims counsel for the Firm. A successful applicant will have at least 8 years’ admission to the practice of law, be admitted to practice law in California, and have experience advising clients. Significant background in the law governing legal ethics and admission to practice law in Nevada will be considered pluses. The General Counsel: • Serves as a source of information and advice to the Firm, its attorneys, and Firm non-attorney personnel on the professional responsibility and ethics requirements generally applicable to law practice by the Firm and its attorneys as well as the Firm’s related activities. • Generally supervises the Firm’s internal conflict review and clearance procedures with respect to both employee hiring and client intake, and provides advice on conflicts resolution and management. • Serves as counsel to the Firm and its attorneys within the scope of their practice of law at the Firm concerning pending claims against the Firm arising out of the practice of law, or circumstances that could potentially give rise to such claims. • Supervises, in consultation with Managing Partner and the Executive Committee, any litigation, administrative proceedings, dispute resolution of claims, or fee disputes arising out of the Firm’s practice of law, including consultation with Firm attorneys involved with such claims or the circumstances giving rise to them. • Serves as liaison with the Firm’s professional liability insurance carrier concerning loss prevention, circumstances potentially giving rise to claims, and actual claims, but is not responsible to negotiate with respect to acquiring and retaining applicable insurance policies. • Depending on the size and nature of the claim, the General Counsel may handle claims against the Firm. The General Counsel is not responsible for providing advice to the Firm or its attorneys in the area of employment law, and does not negotiate or draft Firm documents such as leases or partnership agreements.
