The patent agent should have a chemical engineering or software background with 2-7 years patent prosecution experience. This position can be in Austin, Houston, or Washington DC. The responsibilities will include preparing and prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO, performing research, analysis, and guiding a variety of patent and IP-related issues. The Patent Agent should be registered to practice before the USPTO and have prior experience in patent preparation and prosecution in a law firm environment. Prepare draft patent applications, draft responses to communications from the USPTO Assist in due diligence matters Prepare draft responses to communications from US and foreign patent offices with regard to factual and other scientific matters Undertake continuing education and remain current on patent prosecution issues and trends Investigate general and specific technologies as needed Evaluate and report on the technological aspects of inventions and other matters Identify and analyze complex patent issues and problems; suggest solutions Communicate with and act as a liaison between inventors and the USPTO in connection with all aspects of the patent application process Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, software or electrical engineering.
