AM Law 200 Firm Honigman LLP seeks an Interdepartmental Staff Attorney (“IDA”) for its industry-setting Professional Attorney Track, a three-tiered non-partnership career trajectory. This position is a non-partnership track position, and therefore has no business development obligations. Honigman Interdepartmental Staff Attorneys gain experience in an array of practice areas through assignments from across the Firm’s six departments. A significant amount of IDA assignments come from the Corporate areas of Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity as well as Litigation e-discovery, but IDA projects are also assigned by the Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Labor & Employment, and Insurance Departments. This role in particular will receive assignments from the Matrimonial and Family Law group, among others. The expectation is that, by exploring Honigman’s various practice areas through their assignments, the IDAs will progressively develop a practice focus as they build their careers at the Firm, and this role will include at least a partial focus on Matrimonial and Family Law. IDAs may also participate in secondments with clients as the need arises. Beyond traditional legal work, IDAs also participate as key members of the Firm’s legal operational efforts in adopting new practice technologies, legal project management functions, product/service development, outside counsel guidelines and other business-of-law issues, and more. Reviewing, drafting, negotiating and advising clients on complex prenuptial, postnuptial, separation, divorce, partnership, and cohabitation agreements Providing support to supervising attorney who represents clients in proceedings involving spousal support/alimony, child support, child custody, guardianship, paternity, grandparents’ rights, parenting time issues, personal protection orders and international family law issues Assisting in analyzing complex asset and business valuations and negotiate lump sum and creative property settlements Preparing marital balance sheets using Excel Demonstrate working knowledge of concepts, issues, and resources in other relevant practice areas, including but not limited to: Handling M&A due diligence work, including knowledge of and proficiency with KIRA software; Reviewing and negotiating standard commercial contracts and non-disclosure agreements; J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited institution; Licensed Michigan attorney in good standing
