The Associate Counsel will have sharp critical thinking skills and the ability to problem solve, particularly with respect to generating new documents and deliverables from existing templates. The Associate Counsel shall demonstrate a high level of accountability to directly manage assigned projects, requiring project management skills and attention to detail. Additionally, the Associate Counsel will possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to customize communication approaches based on the client. The ability to express complex legal issues clearly and articulately is critical. Finally, the Associate Counsel will have computer processing literacy and proficiency with using software to manage documents. A background in corporate law is preferred but not required. </p> <p>Responsibilities will include: </p> <ul> <li>Reviewing and drafting contracts for procurement, real estate, professional services, etc. </li> <li>Managing and assisting with development of template library. </li> <li>Reviewing and drafting of system policies (including researching legal issues). </li> <li>Overseeing contract repository and contract strategy. </li> <li>Drafting letters and notices to outside parties. </li> <li>Supporting litigation matters as needed, including litigation holds, review of discovery, etc. </li> <li>Collaborating with other departments on business registration, license, and certificate management processes. </li> <li>Developing process maps and workflows for common transactions. </li> <li>Additional duties as assigned by Corporate Counsel. </li> </ul> <p><b>Communication: </b>Demonstrates effective interpersonal communications skills. </p> <ul> <li>Engages in active listening, asking questions when appropriate. </li> <li>Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations when requested. </li> <li>Effectively uses various technology communication methods to keep stakeholders informed of progress of projects and/or issues. </li> <li>Maintains good working relationships and rapport with project stakeholders, as well as internal and external clients and or vendors. </li> </ul> <p><b>Teamwork </b>: Seeks opportunities to increase business satisfaction and deepen relationships. </p> <ul> <li>Improves team performance by mentoring, training, and motivating in order to facilitate cooperation. </li> </ul> <p><b>Professional Competency </b>: Enhances professional competency through continuing education and researching of material internally or externally. </p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills. </li> <li>Uses critical thinking to assist in decision making and issue resolution. </li> <li>Updates professional skills by taking educational classes as needed. </li> <li>Ensures that financial and material resources are used effectively and efficiently. </li> <li>Leverages resources to maximize utility and return on investment (ROI). </li> <li>Implements measures to minimize theft, damage, or equipment breakdown. </li> </ul> <p><b>The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.<br> </b></p> <p></p> <p><b>QUALIFICATIONS </b></p> <p><b>Education: </b>Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school required. </p> <p><b>Experience: </b>3 years of experience required. </p> <p><b>Licensure: </b>Member in good standing of the State Bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia required. </p> <p><b>Additional Skills/Requirements Required </b>: N/A </p> <p><b>Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred </b>: N/A<br> </p> <p></p> <p><b>PHYSICAL DEMANDS </b></p> <p><b>Physical Demand Code: </b>3A, Administration </p> <p><b>Work Function/Activity </b>: Sedentary to Light Physical Demand </p> <p>The job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and bending/stooping.
