Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry and making a difference in the world. </div> <div></div> <div> Requirements </div> <div></div> <div> The <div> Health Justice Alliance (HJA) </div> is a clinic at Georgetown University Law Center where students are integrated directly into Georgetown healthcare clinics to help D.C. families and children address the legal barriers that negatively impact their health and well-being. Clinic students also function as advocates for community, non-profit, educational, faith-based, and other organizations and groups engaged in work designed to further social and health justice. </div> <div></div> <div> The Staff Attorney, Medical Legal Partnership supports the Georgetown HJA's design and implementation of a Medical-Financial Partnership (MFP). This individual will support the planning design of the MFP, represent client families, and play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the MFP. Reporting directly to the MFP Director and regularly collaborating and communicating with the HJA Law Clinic’s Director and Deputy Director, additional duties include but are not limited to: </div> <ul> <li> <div> Assist the MFP Director and HJA Law Clinic Director and Deputy Director in designing and implementing processes, systems, and tools to support the MFP. </div></li> <li> <div> Assess incoming patient referrals for financial-legal issues and determine appropriate action. </div></li> <li> <div> Provide direct legal services to DCP patients ranging from brief advice to full representation in coordination with the MFP Director and HJA Law Clinic. </div></li> <li> <div> Collaborate with medical partners and other organizations to connect client families to resources to promote financial well-being. </div></li> <li> <div> Assist in the design and implementation of training resources and materials for healthcare providers and community members. </div></li> <li> <div> Participate in policy advocacy to advance financial well-being of DCP patient population with medical partners, DCP families, and other organizations. </div></li> <li> <div> Assist with data collection and funder reporting obligations and support HJA’s evaluation of the MFP. </div></li> <li> <div> Work as a part of a team to ensure that the program, research components, and delivery of legal services are developed and implemented in a manner that is responsive to the needs of DCP patients and its leadership and consistent with the HJA’s partnership with MedStar Health. </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Requirements and Qualifications </div> <ul> <li> <div> JD from an accredited law school </div></li> <li> <div> 2 years of experience providing civil legal services to low-income clients (can include law school clinical work) </div></li> <li> <div> Current member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar </div></li> <li> <div> Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with other lawyers and with doctors, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers to leverage medical expertise to advance legal advocacy at the individual and community level </div></li> <li> <div> Demonstrated commitment to social justice and service to vulnerable clients </div></li> <li> <div> Understanding of legal issues and systems connected to economic justice for people with low-income </div></li> <li> <div> Interest in contributing to the data and other research focused on measuring the impact of medical-legal partnership on health and legal outcomes </div></li> <li> <div> Willingness to develop legal expertise as needed, and ability to travel between local clinical sites </div></li> </ul> <div></div> <div> Work Mode Designation </div> <div> This position has been designated as Hybrid.
