The practice is wide-ranging advising on liability management projects, investment issues, master trusts, scheme funding, corporate restructuring, regulatory and compliance matters, DB and DC governance, scheme design and benefit changes and dispute resolution. About you You will be a qualified lawyer with 2pqe+ experience in the pensions field. You will demonstrate appropriate experience of all key areas including: (in relation to defined benefit pension schemes) drafting trust deeds and rules, being able to identify potential issues in the context of commercial transactions, discrimination issues and the steps needed to address them, issues associated with liability management exercises and the documents required in connection with such exercises; (in relation to defined contribution schemes) regulatory and governance issues and issues associated with master trust arrangements; and (in relation to all arrangements) current investment requirements and how those requirements are expected to develop over the near future. You will have strong communication and inter-personal skills that inspire trust, respect and rapport whilst able to influence and challenge. Methodical and thorough, you will have a strong attention to detail and be able to balance pragmatism, risk and compliance with your advice. You will have strong organisational and management skills. Your role This is an exciting role which will involve working as part of a number of client teams. Each team works on the full range of matters for the particular client (including matters which are often cutting-edge) and comprises lawyers of different PQE. Within client teams - and indeed across the pensions team generally - there is a strong collegiate culture with a focus on helping more junior members realise their full potential as they learn from more senior team members. Your role will involve: Technical Taking instructions internally or externally and delegating where appropriate. Research, due diligence and information management. Drafting and reviewing documentation, demonstrating familiarity with precedents and market standards. Client relationship management Having direct contact with the client under appropriate supervision. Providing commercial and legal advice to the client either directly (with appropriate supervision) or indirectly. Demonstrating thorough market knowledge to identify current trends and concerns in relevant industry sectors. Able to present ideas to the client to resolve current market issues and anticipate potential problems. Management Supervising more junior team members and demonstrating control through effective delegation. Debriefing at the end of a matter or at other appropriate stages. Co-ordinating and where appropriate coaching and mentoring the work of others to facilitate the achievement of objectives. Effective organisation of documentation and project plans. Manging/participating in meetings recognising clear objectives. Business Development Networking with clients to capitalise on new business opportunities. Contributing to know-how and transaction bibles and their upkeep. Training Regularly giving and seeking clear performance feedback to/from others. Coaching less experienced associates and trainees.
