Job Title: Technology Specialist – Patent Agent Job Description: Consult with attorneys to identify scope of inventions by attending inventor interviews, reviewing invention disclosure documents, and preparing detailed disclosure memos, descriptions of inventions in patent applications to be filed in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; work closely with attorneys and agents to draft technical descriptions and figures for inventions involving machine learning and robotics; conduct academic and patent research using applied mathematics, modelling, and simulated physical models; perform and conduct complex technical analyses in electrical, software, and mechanical arts to determine the technical embodiments covered by currently allowed or issued claims; collaborate with attorney or agent to provide counseling on possible further claim sets to cover additional technical features work under the direct guidance of an attorney or agent in support of highly technical patent prosecution, patent enforcement, and intellectual property litigation matters involving machine learning, applied mathematics, statistics, robotics, modelling and simulated physical models; partner with attorneys and agents to obtain and protect intellectual property rights for clients by applying their area of expertise to early-stage developments and emerging technologies; consult with attorneys to identify scope of inventions by attending inventor interviews and/or reviewing invention disclosure documents and prepare detailed descriptions of inventions in patent applications to be filed in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; prepare technical drawings that depict inventions to be filed in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office using software programs provided by the firm; research, review and analyze prior art for relevance to client or client competitor technologies; and prepare concise, accurate, and relevant written technical arguments and analyses in line with fundamental intellectual property concepts. Job Requirements: Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field. Must have experience or completed academic coursework in the following: • Machine learning; • Applied mathematics; • Statistics; • Robotics; • Modelling and simulated physical models; and • Software programming Must be registered as a patent agent with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. The expected salary range for this position is $90,000 - $185,000. The salary offered will depend upon individual qualifications and experience.
