The DOJ is looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join out Division of Legal Services as an Assistant Attorney General – Drug Prosecutor in the Criminal Litigation Unit. <br>This position is headquartered at the DOJ Regional Office located at 327 N. 17 th Ave, Wausau, WI. <br>This position will remain open until filled. For any questions, please contact Pamela Fredrick, Human Resources Specialist at fredrickpj@doj.state.wi.us or (608) 419-3546 . <br>Position Summary <br> <br> Under the general supervision of an Assistant Attorney General Supervisor, this position provides a variety of legal services, through counsel and representation, to the Legislature, Governor, state agencies, corporation counsel and district attorneys, and enforces the statutes under the Attorney General’s jurisdiction. This position will be dedicated to the prosecution of drug overdose homicides and complex, multi-defendant conspiracies involving the trafficking of narcotic drugs and other controlled substances in Central and Northern Wisconsin. This position primarily assists District Attorneys’ offices in the region with investigating, charging, and prosecuting these cases, and also handles some matters as special prosecutions. While this position will specialize in drug prosecutions, the caseload will encompass a variety of legal areas. <br>The Criminal Litigation Unit performs a number of important functions involving criminal related matters including prosecuting selected criminal violations. This unit works closely with the state’s local prosecutors and law enforcement providing training, support, and legal advice. <br>Salary Information <br> <br> The Assistant Attorney General position is in pay schedule 09 and pay range 75. The starting pay will be between $35.00 - $54.00/hour (approx. $72,800 - $112,320 annually). Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period may be required. <br>Job Details <br> <br> This position may be eligible to work remotely up to 40% as part of a hybrid schedule, following an initial training period. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. <br>High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. <br>The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. <br>A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection. <br>Candidate must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar upon appointment. <br>Qualifications <br> <br> Please address the following in your resume and/or letter of qualifications. <br>Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following : Litigating criminal cases at the state and/or federal level with experience performing some or all of the following duties: Preparing and drafting pleadings, pretrial motions, and briefs Reviewing and producing discovery Analyzing facts and applying criminal law Preparing witnesses Handling a case at all stages (from charging through sentencing) First-chair experience litigating motion hearings, evidentiary hearings, oral arguments, and jury trials Negotiating resolution of criminal cases <br>In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will have education, training, and/or experience in the following: Litigating complex drug-related cases and drug conspiracies, including Len Bias cases Post-conviction litigation experience, including researching, analyzing, and writing briefs Training a professional audience on legal topics <br>How To Apply <br> <br> Apply online!
