Sterne Kessler’s Summer Associate program is the primary source for our entry-level attorney class each year. It is our priority to present challenging responsibilities and opportunities to our Summer Associates in a hardworking, yet supportive atmosphere. Our Summer Associates work on matters that involve cutting-edge technologies, developed by a broad range of innovative individuals and companies. Summer Program 2025 details: Our Summer 2025 program will be held in-person in our Washington, D.C. office. Summer Associates can work hybrid schedules and have 1-2 work-from-home days per week. Estimated program dates are May 19 – July 25, 2025. Pay rate will be $4,326/week. Your summer will include relevant work assignments, midpoint and end-of-summer evaluations, workshops/trainings, and exposure to our team structure, all designed to reflect what life is like for an attorney at Sterne Kessler. Our Summer Associates also enjoy a number of social events that allow them to get to know our attorneys on a personal level. Our attorneys come from diverse backgrounds, each contributing to the firm’s success. Past events have included a firm-wide crab feast, D.C. sporting events, cooking classes, city and museum tours, and more. Sterne Kessler is STEM-focused with four practice groups: Biotechnology & Chemical, Electronics, Mechanical & Design, and Trial & Appellate. For our Biotechnology & Chemical Group, advanced degrees (master’s or doctorate) and/or industry experience are required in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Cellular Biology, Developmental Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology, or equivalent discipline. Patent bar eligibility required. For our Electronics Group, undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent are required. Advanced degrees and/or industry experience preferred. Patent bar eligibility required. For our Mechanical & Design Group, undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Civil Engineering, or equivalent are required. Patent bar or design patent bar eligibility required. For our Trial & Appellate Group, STEM undergraduate or advanced degrees are preferred, but not required. Candidates must have genuine interest in IP and patent litigation. Patent bar eligibility preferred, but not required.
