This position will include supervision of staff/volunteers, and the creation of new programs. The MJC exists because 70%-80% of civil cases have at least one person who is self-represented and may not qualify for civil legal aid and cannot afford to hire an attorney. <br> <br> <b>Job Duties and Responsibilities:</b> <br> <ul> <li>Oversight of all Direct Client Services: Develop and implement best practice service models to assist 10,000 self-represented people each year and develop a strategic plan and implementation strategies for direct services. Create and maintain relationships with Courts, Child Support, CCAP, IMSD and other stakeholders.</li> <li>Supervise Staff and Volunteers: Supervise staff and indirectly supervise staff from other MJC Partners (Milwaukee Bar Association, Marquette University Law School) and Oversees work of approximately 150 student volunteers and 200 attorney volunteers annually.</li> <li>Manage Administrative Operations of the Milwaukee Justice Center: Develop and maintain operating procedures in compliance with the Clerk of Courts/County work rules. Manage data collection and reporting, using data to improve services, create programs, and develop new partnerships. Maintain relationships with MJC Partners</li> <li>Represent MJC at Various Meetings, Committees, and Events: Serve on the following committees: MBA Courts Committee, State Bar Legal Services Committee (and if possible) Attend the following meetings: MBA Foundation, MBA Bench Bar meetings, Family/Civil Division Meetings, as invited. Oversee work of MJC Advisory Committee</li> <li>Performs Other Duties as Assigned.</li> </ul> <b>Minimum Education and Experience:</b> <br> <ul> <li>Current resident of the State of Wisconsin</li> <li>Juris Doctorate (JD) and licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.</li> <li>Current member of the Wisconsin State Bar</li> <li>At least one (1) or more years of experience in Public Interest Law, pro bono work, or volunteer work at Milwaukee Justice Center (MJC) or Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinics (MVLC)</li> </ul> <b>Preferred Experience:</b> <br> <ul> <li>Experience supervising student interns and volunteers.</li> <li>Working knowledge of area civil legal aid providers.</li> <li>Working knowledge of Wisconsin Family Law.</li> </ul> <b>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</b> Knowledge of Wisconsin state statutes and case law; knowledge of rules of appellate procedure; knowledge of automated legal research; analytical and organizational skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to make independent legal decisions; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with the staff and the public; ability to manage time wisely and efficiently; ability to operate a personal computer; ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in the work performed. The ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 30lbs. <br><b>NOTE:</b> This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application.
