Our analytic solutions bridge content, data, and analytics to help business, people, and society become stronger, more resilient, and sustainable.</p><b><br> Job Description</b> <p><b><br> About the Role</b></p> <p> The Lead Counsel at Verisk Extreme Event Solutions (“EES”) will primarily oversee client and supplier contracts across all EES businesses, including AIR Worldwide and Analyze Re[1] units (https://www.air-worldwide.com/), Verisk Atmospheric and Environmental Research (“AER”) (https://www.aer.com/), and Verisk Maplecroft (“Maplecroft”) (https://www.maplecroft.com/), which, collectively, have offices in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Germany, India, Singapore, China, and Japan. EES Lead Counsel will also be the point of contact for all legal and compliance-related issues impacting EES, offer guidance on these matters and/or confer with the appropriate legal and compliance professionals at our parent company, Verisk Analytics, Inc. (https://www.verisk.com/), to address and resolve those issues. You will report to the Chief Litigation Counsel at Verisk based in Jersey City, New Jersey, Verisk’s headquarters. You may be called on to collaborate with personnel at any number of Verisk’s subsidiary entities as the need arises.</p> <p> EES is a leading provider of sophisticated, scalable data-driven insights to clients in the insurance and reinsurance industries, governments and quasi-government entities and large corporations looking to understand their exposure to extreme property-loss events like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, casualty events that give rise to large-scale liabilities to policyholders and others, as well as socio-economic and geopolitical risks such as corruption, human rights abuses, supply chain disruptions, political instability and other critical ESG-related events.</p> <p><b> Responsibilities</b></p> <p> You will work directly with the senior executives at EES. You will also have regular contact with our functional business leaders, business development team members, insurance-linked securities team, data security and privacy team, and with our IT group. They will rely on you to pull contracts together and steer the contracts to signature, to create/revise templates as needed, and to answer legal questions of all types when they arise. In these capacities you will also have extensive contact with both clients and suppliers, and be negotiating terms and conditions that account for our business interests. You will have a senior contracts manager, specifically for AIR, reporting directly to you to help you organize, draft, negotiate and process the contracts and to deal with the financial side of AIR, to ensure that we send invoices to clients and payments to our vendors.</p> <p> Your ability to work efficiently and effectively with EES’ teams and with a demanding set of clients and senior executives is essential. You will take a pragmatic business approach to legal issues to get your work done, focusing on what is really important to EES in order to move contracts along, balanced with an ability to spot and weigh risks in the contracting process.</p> <p> This job is located in our Boston, MA office and is a hybrid position. EES Lead Counsel will be expected to be in person and on site at least three days a week with the option of working remotely for the remaining two days.</p><b><br> Qualifications</b> <p><b><br> Required:</b> </p> <ul> <li>At least five years of experience negotiating various types of consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and software licenses, including service-level commitments that come into play on cloud-hosted software solutions for our clients.</li> <li> Experience with intellectual property protection.</li> <li> A basic grounding in finance.</li> <li> At least two years of experience with a contract-management system.</li> <li> Proficiency with Word and Excel.</li> </ul> <p><b> Preferred:</b></p> <ul> <li> Two or more years of experience with Salesforce, which is where we store data on contract opportunities and on revenue allocations.</li> <li> A solid understanding of insurance policy terms and the insurance and reinsurance industries in general.</li> <li> Experience partnering with and advising senior executives on a host of legal issues.</li> </ul> <p><b> Education:</b></p> <ul> <li> Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience.</li> <li> A law degree from an accredited law school in the U.S.</li> <li> CPCU and Lean Six Sigma certifications are welcome but not required.</li> </ul> <br> <b> Additional Information</b> <p><br> In 2022, Verisk received Great Place to Work® Certification for our outstanding workplace culture for the sixth year in a row and second-time certification in the UK, Spain, and India.
