Description
King & Spalding, a leading global law firm, is currently seeking a Patent Agent to join our Intellectual Property (“IP”) team. Preferred location is Atlanta and willing to also consider D.C., New York, Chicago, Austin, Houston, Charlotte, Miami, or Northern Virginia. The Patent Agent will have experience in prosecuting patent applications in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering with strong preference for those with additional chemistry or biochemistry experience to meet the complex and ever-evolving patent and technology needs of our clients. Candidates will have the following qualifications/responsibilities: Work closely with the IP team to draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office Assist IP attorneys in the representation of clients involved in Patent Office proceedings, patent litigation and general patent prosecution matters Complete patentability assessments and third-party patent searches Conduct patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions Assist the IP team as needed with patent clearance and enforcement projects Successful candidates are forward thinking, thorough and detail oriented. Candidates must have patent application drafting and prosecution experience and well-developed patent database search skills. Candidates should possess substantive academic and professional knowledge and work well with others in a law firm environment. Candidates should have excellent time management skills which they can utilize both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering. Candidates should have approximately 3+ years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters. Candidates are required to have a USPTO registration number. Advanced technical degree is preferred but not required.
