The purpose of this role is to ensure that Linklaters remains at the cutting edge of monitoring, analysing and driving business value from ESG EU law issues. This is a cross EU role, working in close co-ordination with the London based ESG PSL and the global ESG practice. It is a strategic role, looking to ensure our knowledge of ESG EU law and market practice is of the highest quality and that business development opportunities are maximised. The successful candidate will join an international hub of ESG expertise, working hand in hand with fee earning lawyers to help clients anticipate regulatory changes and thrive in the highly dynamic ESG regulatory environment. Along with our thriving network of collaborative Knowledge Lawyers and experts, this role will help drive an EU/London partnership model of collaborative cross-practice and multi-jurisdictional working. There are two key elements to the role: Internal facing: create, collate and share EU law-related ESG knowhow and market practice from across the continental Europe network and ensure it is easily accessible across the global practice and lead on internal training and practice development. Client-facing: identify and co-ordinate, together with client facing lawyers, opportunities to share our EU law-related ESG expertise with clients; to use innovative approaches for business development, to prepare thought leadership, prepare client presentations & external facing material and present our capabilities directly to clients. Key responsibilities 1. Deliver market leading Knowledge Identify and monitor key EU legal and regulatory developments and provide guidance/updates as necessary Develop and disseminate commercially useful memoranda, presentations and precedents Work with local PSLs and lawyers to identify/produce a suite of up-to-date EU law-related ESG knowhow and content that can be packaged for both client and internal use Respond to ESG queries from lawyers in our global offices Enhance and develop new mechanisms for capturing, sharing and communicating EU law-related ESG knowhow. Ensure all ESG EU law knowledge is easily accessible in the firm’s global knowledge systems 2. Drive the EU law ESG K&L strategy In close collaboration with ESG sponsoring K&L partners and the London ESG PSL: develop a K&L strategy for the region, identifying key priorities and a strategy for delivering those enable a knowledge sharing culture across the team in EU offices, as well as enabling an excellent EU/London partnership co-ordinate ESG K&L efforts across the region, leveraging the broader K&L network 3. Drive innovative BD efforts - work across continental Europe offices and practices, in close collaboration with the global ESG team, to: Identify and lead discussions on key ESG EU law business issues that clients and prospective clients care about Produce and update client materials with commentary and analysis Generate meaningful tools & materials, in collaboration with the regional and local BD teams, to support client conversations Leverage intelligence from global ESG teams, the strategy team, TacOps and sector groups to identify upcoming trends and offerings of strategic importance to our clients Promote internal collaboration and cross-selling to maximise ESG opportunities Develop EU law-related thought-leadership and client-facing materials, including client presentations and training Draw on practice subject matter experts where needed and involve them in client facing activities 4. Deliver appropriate L&D Educate on and encourage ESG cross-selling opportunities across continental Europe offices Organise, develop and deliver training, including client training Engage with all lawyers to raise client awareness around ESG Identify ways of encouraging client facing lawyers to share their knowledge gained from transactions across the region and to deliver both formal training sessions and on the job training Legal Skills and Character A passion for ESG EU law and a deep interest in the impact of ESG related regulatory changes Excellent legal technical and writing skills, including drafting and legal analysis An ability to follow and synthesize EU ESG related legal and regulatory developments and issues An ability to develop knowhow and training of practical and commercial application Excellent organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage time effectively and to prioritise Highly collaborative and able to drive collaboration in others Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work as part of a cross-jurisdictional team, ensuring a seamless service for the region Energy and commitment, with a flexible and proactive approach Self-motivation, resilience and discipline Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to apply law and regulation in a practical way to ’real-life’ scenarios Engaging speaker and presenter with the ability to deliver training clearly, precisely and at a level matched to that of the audience. Practical experience At least three years’ work experience as a qualified lawyer or PSL, ideally with expertise in EU sustainable finance Experience of client facing work Experience of developing and delivering knowhow and training Education / Qualification Law degree or other degree Completed LPC and training contract or equivalent EU legal qualification Office skills Ability to leverage IT tools and resources to further the exchange of high-quality know how Commercial Skills ’ Experience of client/business relationships This list of duties and responsibilities above is not exhaustive. It is intended to describe the general content of, and requirements for, the performance of this job.
