LEGAL AID OF WESTERN MISSOURI
DEBT DEFENSE STAFF ATTORNEY
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
Legal Aid seeks a full-time staff attorney to represent defendants in debt collection cases through our Debt Relief Project. The attorney will be housed in our Central Office in Kansas City and will primarily represent clients in Associate Circuit Court in Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties. The attorney will develop and administer an in-person courthouse clinic to meet with potential clients and provide advice and representation as appropriate. The work will focus on litigating defenses, counterclaims under state and federal law, and negotiating settlements.
The qualified candidate must have the following:
<ul>
<li>Active Missouri Bar license, pending bar results, or ability to waive in</li>
<li>Excellent written and oral communication skills</li>
<li>Desire and commitment to assist in the delivery of high-quality legal assistance</li>
<li>Ability to speak a second language, preferred, but not required</li>
<li>Courtroom experience preferred</li>
</ul>
Salary: Starting at $65,000 + DOE
