Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a mid to senior-level litigation attorney for engagement through DWTSurge, the firm’s alternative staffing program. The attorney will assist the litigation group and will be dedicated to supporting litigation and arbitration matters for a large corporate client. The attorney will assist with case management, attend remote hearings on a weekly basis, draft briefings using templates, make settlement recommendations, and communicate regularly with the client. Candidates should be able to operate with a high level of independence, possess strong client service abilities, and exercise good judgment as part of a highly collaborative team. Experience litigating and handling hearings independently is required. This is a contract position for a specified term that will start on a part-time basis, starting with an average of 20-30 hours, with the potential to increase to an average of 30-40 hours after a trial and training period. The volume and hours of work may fluctuate week to week, so we are interested in candidates who can be flexible about their hours of work and availability. While the engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, we anticipate the work to remain relatively steady and ongoing, so there is a strong possibility of renewal for additional terms for successful candidates. We are looking for attorneys who seek to establish a long-term arrangement working with DWT on an exclusive basis. The ideal candidate will have: 5+ years of litigation experience with a mid-sized or large law firm, supporting large institutional clients Residency and active bar admission in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC Experience attending and managing hearings without close supervision or instruction Experience interfacing directly with large institutional clients Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy Ability to prepare for hearings independently, and also as part of a larger team Strong attention to detail Strong ability to represent the client and the firm when conferring with various stakeholders A high level of interest in litigating cases and responsiveness to changing priorities Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail, given the high-volume of matters that this position will handle Please note that this is a contract position managed by DWT’s flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Part-time contract attorneys may be eligible for 401(k), and paid sick leave. Once the attorney’s hours increase to over 29 hours per week on average, medical benefits will also be provided.
