About the role We are currently seeking a senior associate or special counsel to join our Construction and Infrastructure team on a full time permanent basis. Our practice will provide the chance to do a mixture of contentious and non-contentious construction law work. Strong skills and experience in both areas of practice are preferred. To be successful in this role you will ideally have at least 5+ years of construction experience at a well-regarded firm or sophisticated in-house environment. You will be commercially astute, have a strong eye for detail and be a team player. In addition, you will have a demonstrated willingness to build effective relationships with blue chip clients. The practice group leader, Sandra Steele has more than 20 years’ experience advising on contentious and non-contentious construction law matters and is recognised as one of Australia’s leading lawyers in Construction/Infrastructure Law (2019 - present Best Lawyers). She has extensive experience in contract drafting and negotiation as well as litigation and alternative dispute resolution in the project management, construction, engineering and infrastructure project sectors. Prior to joining K&L Gates, Sandra spent 6 years as the Assistant General Counsel for Lendlease Project Management & Construction (Australia) Pty Limited. Sandra was a finalist for Partner of the Year Awards for Construction & Infrastructure in Lawyers Weekly for 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020. What does the role involve? Drafting and negotiating construction documentation Providing advice and managing construction disputes including adjudications Running litigation matters primarily in the supreme court and arbitrations, across various jurisdictions internationally and in Australia Active participant in business development and client relationship activities Develop the capacity of colleagues to deliver high quality legal advice through on the job training and supervision, team meetings and matter de-briefs Contribute to the firm’s learning and development program in area of specialty Contribute knowledge and learning resources, including precedents We look to recruit talented people, then provide the opportunities and support for them to achieve their best.
