SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Boston office is seeking a bright and motivated Labor & Employment Paralegal.. This position performs a variety of legal and case related duties for attorneys on assigned cases. This position interacts with colleagues in a team setting and upholds the image of the Firm by maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff, and observing confidentiality of client matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Creates, coordinates, implements and manages organizational tracking systems for large and complex document collection, review, analysis and case management. Reviews and drafts routine legal documents. Assists attorneys in reviewing documents for privilege and drafts privilege logs for production to opposing party. Serves as a project manager and works in conjunction with litigation technology department on automated litigation support projects including creation and maintenance of databases. Understands complex database concepts and terminology including imaging, coding and OCR of documents Manages and utilizes automated litigation support tools, including, but not limited to, database management software (web repository or in-house), CaseMap, Text Map, Time Map, Relativity, Westlaw, and Lexis. Performs research (factual, legal, internet and other) to identify issues. Creates and utilizes procedures for the organization, coordination and retrieval of documents. Creates organizational systems for and maintains electronic and paper case files and workrooms. Prepares for and attends depositions, hearings, trials and arbitrations as needed. Coordinates assembly of exhibits and appendices for court papers, witness sets, depositions and trials. Compiles information identified by attorneys and prepares documentation as appropriate which clearly details the findings. Summarizes deposition and trial exhibits and transcripts. Analyzes and reviews documents as required by attorneys specific to case issues and determines necessary information. Understands mechanics of e-filing and e-files with courts. Assists with preparation of court filings including, but not limited to, cite and fact checking legal briefs, confirming proper Bluebook citation, and assembling of exhibits and appendices. Supervises and mentors junior paralegals, case assistants and temporary staff and serves as a resource on litigation and trial matters to the lawyers and staff. Communicates, corresponds and interacts with clients and outside entities including agencies, expert witnesses, vendors corporations and other law firms to gather information or data. Creates or contributes to accurate case budgets or schedules. Complies with department and firm administrative procedures and policies and assists with department projects as needed EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of 3-5 years of solid litigation experience is required; experience in employment litigation (which could include wage & hour, wrongful termination, harassment or discrimination matters) is preferred. Proficiency with automated litigation support technology and large, complex case document collection, review and production experience is a must. Also candidates must have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the litigation process and e-discovery. The position will have significant collaboration with lawyers and litigation technology professionals and requires superior organizational and interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Paralegal Certificate is preferred. SKILL REQUIREMENT: High level of competence in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).Familiarity with Sanction, Trial Director or other similar trial presentation applications as well as Carpe Diem or similar time entry software, FileSite or similar document management systems, litigation databases such as TextMap, CaseMap, Relativity or Concordance. Strong organizational skills and ability to pay very close attention to detail. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent grammatical skills.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as appropriate for the needs of the audience (clients, internal and external resources). Work well under pressure and remain flexible to changing priorities. Multi-task successfully in a fast-paced work environment, in order to meet competing deadlines Problem solve, think independently and follow-through on projects with minimal supervision.
