Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary, the Senior Counsel/Assistant General Counsel is responsible for managing a range of material legal matters for the company, including: (i) complex litigation, involving commercial, property, environmental, construction, and/or personal injury disputes; (ii) environmental, health, and safety regulatory matters; (iii) internal and external investigations, (iv) labor and employment compliance, (v) cybersecurity compliance; and (vi) providing strategic legal guidance to management. The Associate General Counsel also plays an important role the effective management of outside counsel, including case budgetary responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a track record of handing sophisticated litigation matters, i.e., over $5M in dispute. <ul> <li>Manage disputes, law firms, and case budgets on a company-wide basis, actively participating in the strategic and major tactical decisions for all litigation, disputes, and assigned regulatory matters. </li> <li>Provide guidance to internal business groups to resolve disputes prior to litigation.</li> <li> Advise internal business stakeholders on regulatory compliance issues, particularly related to environmental, health, and safety-related agency reporting and actions.</li> <li> Reporting for the legal function regarding litigation. </li> <li>Providing strategic and tactical guidance on commercial and strategic transactions and managing outside counsel’s role in those transactions.</li> <li> Other duties as requested by the General Counsel, which may include advising on other federal and regulatory matters, crisis management, government relations, and managing company compliance processes and procedures. </li> </ul>Qualifications: <ul> <li>Sophisticated litigation experience of 10+ years, in a large law firm or litigation boutique environment.</li> <li> Experience as direct interface with senior management in the carrying out of legal duties. </li> <li>Must be able to work with limited supervision and carry out directives and exercise appropriate independent judgment.</li> <li> Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, law firms, and other departments within the company.</li> <li> Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.</li> <li> J.D. required.</li> <li> In-house legal department experience with responsibility for management of litigation and direct management of outside counsel preferred.</li> <li> Legal experience in the oil and gas industry, particularly midstream preferred.</li> <li> Direct supervision of attorneys in an in-house legal environment preferred.</li> <li> Experience with environmental matters, including advising on agency reporting and enforcement action preferred.</li> <li> Experience advising on labor and employment compliance, disputes, and employee relations issues. Experience with employee benefits compliance is a plus.</li> <li> Experience representing clients on midstream regulatory issues, including those related to FERC, PHMSA, and state agencies preferred.</li> <li> Experience advising on cybersecurity compliance, preparedness, and incident response preferred.</li> <li> Experience with Legal department budgeting and monitoring of legal spend preferred.</li> <li> Experience with state and federal government relations preferred.</li> </ul> Schedule: Hybrid
