POSITION SUMMARY, RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS Honigman’s nationally acclaimed life sciences patent practice is seeking individuals with a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemistry, Biotechnology Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field to join the firm as a Technology Specialist in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. This is a part-time role available to current law students or individuals who plan to attend law school. A Technology Specialist is expected to take and pass the USPTO patent examination to become registered as a patent agent. Individuals interested in the Technology Specialist position will work alongside highly experienced attorneys in the firm’s Patent Practice Group, many of whom have Ph.D. or M.Sc. degrees. The individual will receive extensive training to develop and expand their knowledge of intellectual property law and the day-to-day responsibilities of a Technology Specialist. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; Performing prior art searches and analysis and patentability analysis; Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects; Applying advanced concepts in life sciences fields; and Engaging in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships. QUALIFICATIONS A keen interest in the life sciences industry with an advanced degree, preferably an M.Sc. or a Ph.D in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field; Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and the ability to quickly learn and work with Derwent Innovation, PATTSY, LexisNexis, and other research databases; Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication (written and verbal skills; Highly responsive and efficient work habits and strong attention to detail; Desire to continuously improve knowledge, skills, and abilities and seek guidance and feedback to improve performance and productivity; Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under significant time constraints; and Ability to integrate into the practice and build strong relationships with clients and withinHonigman.
