<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText jobsearch-JobComponent-description"><div> <p><b>Position Title: </b>Senior Labor and Employment Counsel</p> <p><b> Location:</b> Atlanta, GA</p> <p><b> Reports to:</b> Vice President- Chief Employment &amp; International Counsel</p> <br> <p></p> <p> The Senior Labor &amp; Employment Counsel reports to the Vice President - Chief Employment &amp; International Counsel, which reports directly to the General Counsel. Our team is responsible for the management and handling of all labor and employment legal matters for more and 28,000 employees and contractors globally. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for employment legal issues for an assigned group of businesses and functions. Incumbent also manages the Employee Relations function and leads cross-functional projects that help the Company and the Legal Department meet its annual objectives.</p> <p> The ideal candidate must position themselves as a trusted expert, cultivate effective relationships with all levels of leadership, and be passionate about applying his/her skills and experiences to assess, recommend, and influence the department’s special projects, trainings, and other resources offered to support the organization. Counseling comprises the largest proportion of this role at Newell, so the ideal candidate will also love this type of work.</p> <p> This position will be based in the Company’s corporate headquarters in Atlanta, GA.</p> <br> <p></p> <p><b> General Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</b></p> <ul> <li>Provide subject matter expertise and day-to-day advice on employment laws, policies and best practices, with limited oversight and wide discretion to reach the best outcome for the employees and the Company.</li> <li>Manage 2 Employee Relations Investigators; provide guidance on investigations and remediation.</li> <li>Conduct investigations pursuant to the Company's Code of Conduct and related policies; Handles all HR and Employee Relations investigations through the Ethics Hotline and other reporting avenues; Provide support, guidance and remediation advice to the Ethics &amp; Compliance team on other types of non-Employee Relations investigations (ie: fraud and conflict of interest matters).</li> <li>Manage employment charges, litigation and Affirmative Action Plans, as well as legal support for OSHA investigations, and the related outside counsel and legal spend.</li> <li>Initiate and project manage continuous improvement projects to address repeatable risk situations and/or to streamline and create efficiencies. The ideal candidate could apply their skills and passion toward influencing the type of project work the department undertakes.</li> <li>Create and deliver HR and employee training such as “Respect in the Workplace”, employee medical leave and accommodations, and investigations best practices. Our team is a trusted expert and plays a big role in recommending the training needed in the organization, so an ideal candidate will come with enthusiasm and creativity about training.</li> <li>Advise on strategic HR projects, pay equity analysis, and employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructuring and outsourcing.</li> <li>Maintain expert knowledge of employment and compliance issues <div></div> <div> <br> </div> </li> </ul> <br> <p><b>Key Qualifications:</b></p> <ul> <li>Hold a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school</li> <li>Minimum 4-6 years of employment legal experience</li> <li>In-house employment law experience or a secondment to a corporate legal department is a plus • Significant experience providing employment legal advice for a Fortune 500 company (either in-house or through a law firm)</li> <li>Licensed to practice law in at least one State</li> <li>Experience with counseling on hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations, leaves of absences, manager and human resources training, investigation management, disability issues. In particular, expertise in FMLA, ADA and related laws, without regular help from outside counsel, is a must.</li> <li>Excellent analytical skills, which will include basic Excel skills such as pivot tables and formulas</li> <li>Strong verbal, written and negotiation skills</li> <li>Ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing tasks</li> <li>Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment</li> <li>Ability to present detailed and complex information (prepare reports, rationale and recommendations) to management clearly and concisely, including basic PowerPoint skills</li> <li>A collaborative work style, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility and partner with internal customers and co-workers on a global basis</li> <li>Hands-on style and willingness to engage proactively.
