JOB TITLE: Bankruptcy Associate LOCATION: Kansas City, MO office (hybrid work environment) POSITION SUMMARY Spencer Fane currently has an opening in our Kansas City, MO office for a junior level Financial Services Litigation and Insolvency Associate. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of litigation experience and have a strong interest in the insolvency practice, including state and federal litigation, commercial bankruptcy, receivership, and insolvency related litigation. The position will require regular court room appearances (both virtual and live) and the candidate must have the ability to handle appearances independently, interact skillfully with court personnel and opposing parties. The ideal candidate will have experience with all phases of commercial litigation, including fact investigation, legal research, drafting discovery, preparing pleadings, depositions, mediations, communicating with opposing counsel and clients, and appearing in court for both non-evidentiary and evidentiary proceedings. The ideal candidate would also have a general understanding of insolvency issues, whether in bankruptcy, receivership, or out-of-court restructurings and other bankruptcy alternatives. REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school with an excellent academic record Admission to a state bar with the expectation that the candidate would seek admission to the Missouri and Kansas Bars Ability to interface directly with attorneys, clients, and court personnel Demonstrate an ability to work independently and productively Exceptional written and oral communication skills Strong decision-making, problem-solving and organization skills Outstanding judgment Ability to effectively handle multiple projects Ability to develop and implement legal strategies Interest and ability working within a collaborative team environment PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Position is generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time, but may involve the need for inter-office mobility for brief periods of time Ability to occasionally or routinely lift up to 10 – 20 lbs.
