We are seeking a qualified land use and municipal law attorney with a minimum of three years of experience working in land use, zoning and code enforcement for a local government or a law firm to join the firm’s West Palm Beach office. You would be joining a dynamic team of attorneys in the firm’s Land Use & Governmental practice group. The ideal candidate will have experience in handling a variety of legal matters in and related to comprehensive planning and land use, zoning, and code enforcement. The attorney will be part of a team handling matters, quasi-judicial and public hearings in Palm Beach County and its various boards, agencies, and committees, as well as those of municipalities throughout Palm Beach County. The attorney is expected to provide litigation support in cases and appeals involving Bert Harris Property Rights claims, land use, zoning, and code enforcement decisions. The attorney must possess exemplary verbal and written skills and the ability to effectively manage time and handle a high volume workload of comprehensive planning and land use, zoning, and code enforcement matters. You can be expected to handle or assist with a variety of legal matters in the areas of comprehensive planning and land use, zoning code enforcement proceedings, and local government law. You may attend the meeting of county and municipal boards, councils and commissions, and code enforcement magistrate proceedings , many of which take place in the evening. You may represent developers, builders, entrepreneurs, institutions, property owners, homeowners or condominium associations or individuals in land use, and zoning, and code enforcement quasi-judicial proceedings. You may assist clients with zoning, PUD and subdivision approvals, the preparation of zoning ordinances and amendments thereto, and for special exception or conditional uses, variances. You will be expected to conduct such legal research as may be necessary and must be able to analyze contracts, statutes, judicial decisions, and codes and regulations. Advocating on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action Meeting with attorneys, clients, planners and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects Conducting research on legal issues associated with comprehensive planning and land use, zoning, code enforcement and other related matters Possess an outstanding academic record with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school Admitted to and be in good standing with The Florida Bar At least three (3) years of relevant experience County or municipal government experience, or prior experience working in the regulatory process for private property owners in obtaining entitlements from local governments is of paramount importance Must be highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines Ability to perform tasks utilizing legal office software such as document management and billing software Full proficiency with advanced, multifunction word processing software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and PDF programs) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment Exercise discretion and good judgment Ability to work independently and within a team is essential Jones Foster extends employment only to those who have the qualifications for a long-term career.
