The Senior Counsel will devote approximately half-time to supporting central, global functions of Champion’s business and half-time to supporting Champion’s business in the United States.</p> <p></p> <p> The successful candidate will be a business-minded, practical, strategic, and proactive legal partner to Champion’s Sales, Commercial, Finance, P&amp;O, Marketing, Regulatory and Research &amp; Innovation functions to help the business achieve its ambitious growth agenda in the US and globally. Working in a highly collaborative manner with the broader Champion and Mars Legal teams (e.g., Food Law, Sustainability, Compliance, Marketing Properties, Intellectual Property, Corporate Development, and Privacy), the Senior Counsel is accountable for delivering holistic legal support to grow the business, manage legal risks, and protect the Champion brands and reputation, while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws.</p> <p></p> <p> The Senior Counsel will be a highly skilled lawyer with an excellent track record of creating collaborative relationships across a complex, matrixed organization in a fast-paced, agile culture. The preferred candidate will demonstrate sufficient maturity and experience with the required degree of integrity to be a trusted advisor to senior leaders and operate with a high degree of autonomy. This is a newly created role within the Champion Legal team and is an exciting opportunity to use your legal skills to unlock new and unique growth opportunities for one of the world’s leading global super-premium pet food companies.</p> <p></p> <p> This role can be based in one of the Mars hubs (NJ/IL/TN/VA) or in Boulder, CO.</p> <p></p> <p><b> What are we looking for?</b></p> <ul> <li><p> J.D. from an accredited law school with 10+ years of legal experience required, with a preference for legal experience in the United States. Ideally, corporate, litigation and transaction experience in both a well-respected law firm and in the legal department of a successful, complex, growth company preferred. Experience in the CPG sector would be advantageous.</p></li> <li><p> Broad-based legal experience supporting complex organizations, including drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements and managing litigation, with a solid foundational understanding of the associated regulatory environment and relevant commercial laws.</p></li> <li><p> Experience providing effective counsel to senior business leaders is preferred.</p></li> <li><p> Creative, agile thinker with strong analytical skills and an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented mindset to offer sound decisions and drive business growth objectives.</p></li> <li><p> Strong business acumen.
