Job Description Summary: Senior Legal Counsel – Consumer Financial Services Products Job Description: Senior Legal Counsel – Consumer Financial Services Products PayPal is seeking a talented, high caliber and energetic product attorney with specific and focused experience in retail (non-lending) financial services products and the related laws, rules and regulations to join our Global Product Legal Team, supporting PayPal’s U.S. Consumer Financial Services Products. In this role, you will be a strategic advisor to PayPal’s product, engineering, design, and go-to-market teams. This position will: * Provide proactive, timely and business-focused legal advice on the application of financial services regulations to a range of PayPal branded consumer financial services products including, among others, Debit Card, Direct Deposit, Savings products and related digital wallet features. * Advise on the design and modification of new and existing products and features throughout the entire product lifecycle, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, and review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance with applicable laws. * Develop trusted relationships with business partners and work closely with cross-functional teams (compliance, project management, marketing) to drive stakeholder alignment. The successful candidate will have the specific qualifications and experience: * J.D. or equivalent required. * Admitted to, and in good standing with, a State Bar. * Five or more years of experience practicing either in-house, preferably in a bank or fintech environment (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with a focus on non-lending related financial services products , including the application of state and federal banking, payments, and/or FinTech -related laws, rules and regulations. * Practical, business minded, approach to counseling clients on legal risks and issues. * Ability to proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies. * In depth knowledge of and ability to effectively advise on related federal and state financial services laws, rules and regulations; consumer protection laws; payments laws; and other legal issues. * Experience with launching financial services products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the financial services space. * Familiarity with, and strong interest in, PayPal, Venmo, mobile and alternative payments, emerging payments technology, and the payments industry. About you: * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity. * Confident self-starter with strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills. * Demonstrated ability to effectively and proactively provide sound, business -focused and timely legal advice, exercise good judgment, and work well with other attorneys, management, and cross-functional stakeholders. * Ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks and bring them to prompt and effective completion. * Comfortable with gray areas and interpreting and applying the law in new and unsettled contexts. * Ability to focus both on attention to detail and the bigger picture. * Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances. * Exceptional oral and written communication skills. * Ability to effectively explain/summarize complex concepts for varying audiences. * Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities. New York City Only : The pay range for this position is as mentioned below per year, plus annual bonus. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining final salary.
