<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText"><div> <div> Career Area: </div> Legal <div></div> <div> Job Description: </div> <div> Caterpillar is seeking an experienced commercial contracts attorney to support its Solar Turbines Division. The Corporate Counsel will deliver comprehensive legal support for commercial transactions, including complex contracts for the sale of the company’s goods and services, the purchase of goods and services and other related commercial matters, on a global basis. The incumbent will be expected to draft, review, negotiate and provide general commercial legal advice with respect to a variety of contracts in support of the company’s business objectives while also managing risk and ensuring compliance in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations. </div> <div> <br> The successful candidate will report to the Associate General Counsel responsible for the company’s Customer Services and Global Supply Chain Business Units, and will engage and collaborate with various functional personnel and subject matter experts throughout the company’s global operations - including sales, application engineering, project management, field service, supply chain, engineering, marketing, tax, finance, HSSE, legal, and others as may be appropriate to ensure the provision of responsive and high-quality legal support for the company’s commercial dealings on a global basis. <br> <br> The incumbent will effectively negotiate or otherwise communicate directly with customers, suppliers, and other external parties to reach mutual agreement or otherwise resolve issues in a manner consistent with the company’s policies and interests. The role may also involve participation in process-improvement initiatives, delivery of legal-related training to company colleagues, research of legal issues, management of outside counsel, and other activities as determined and directed by supervisory staff. The incumbent is not required to track or bill time spent on various matters but will be responsible for creating and managing matters and properly retaining/filing documents utilizing the Legal Department’s designated matter management and document management systems and related policies and procedures. </div> <div> <br> The position is primarily an on-site role based in either San Diego, CA or Houston, TX, with some flexibility for working remotely part of the time. The company values in-person collaboration and so the incumbent will be expected to work onsite in the company’s offices during a majority of working days/hours and may be required to be present in the office on certain days or during certain working hours as appropriate to accommodate client meetings or other in-person collaboration. Some limited travel, including international travel, may be required. </div> <div> <br> Basic Qualifications: </div> <ul> <li> A law degree from an accredited law school, plus at least five years of relevant experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, preferably with a corporate law department or law firm serving top global companies.</li> <li> Active Bar admission in any U.S. state or otherwise officially qualified or admitted to practice law as in-house counsel to the extent as required in the jurisdiction.</li> <li> Experience in the practice of U.S. and international commercial law.</li> <li> A demonstrated record of interpreting, analyzing and communicating the substance of complex contract law issues and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.</li> <li> Ability to collaborate vertically and horizontally, across levels and various business functions, and with external parties</li> <li> Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills with demonstrated ability to impact, influence, and negotiate with internal and external resources</li> <li> Results-oriented - willing to take initiative, identify risks, make decisions and take responsibilities to resolve contract related problems</li> <li> Excellent written and verbal English language skills; additional capabilities in one or more foreign languages is helpful.</li> </ul> <div> Additional Information: </div> <div> Neither relocation benefits nor sponsorship for applicants not currently eligible for employment in the United States is being offered for this position at this time. </div> <div> <br> EEO/AA Employer.
