<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText"><div> <p><b>We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, age, citizenship, color, religion, sex, marital status, national origin, disability status, gender identity or expression, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.</b></p> <p><b> Description</b></p> <br> <p></p> <b>Where the Chemistry Happens</b> <p></p> As Litigation Counsel, you will lead the strategy and defense of diverse routine and complex litigation and dispute counseling to ensure that BASF’s position is fully, properly, and accurately presented to the courts and other internal and external stakeholders through effective partnering of in-house and outside attorneys. <b>As a Litigation Counsel you create chemistry by…</b> <p></p> • You will work with other legal and business colleagues in the US and in Germany, to effectively manage any disputes or litigation matters with the business and Company’s goals in mind. • Recommend litigation strategies and propose methods for ultimate case resolution, including the assessment of trial risks, settlement values, as well as work with insurance and accounting colleagues as needed. Also, you will assist businesses on various compliance topics as needed (e.g., helping ensure appropriate anti-corruption measures are in place). • You will work collaboratively with outside counsel by monitoring the quality and effectiveness of its legal work and supervising the coordination of the legal and factual arguments advanced by the company, ensuring case effectiveness, consistency, and adherence to company objectives • Your experience in negotiating, assessing, and implementing alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) will serve you well, as you manage litigation spend to ensure alignment with legal function, goals and objectives, including the use of AFAs, RFPs and alternative service providers, while optimizing outcomes and minimizing budget impact • Working as a proactive and collaborative team player, within the Legal function overall and the Litigation function specifically, you will be taking part in various initiatives and contributing to best practices. The ability to collaborate on a Team and with clients is of critical importance. • Manage and support global businesses, and constructively interact with diverse groups at all levels of organization. As a role model, you will advocate for DE&amp;I in all aspects of your work, specifically in retention and management of outside counsel and other legal vendors. • Combining your strong strategic perspective with your ability to understand, assess, and clearly communicate “big” picture legal concepts to business partners, you will partner with functional and business units to create risk management and mitigation strategies, as well as participate in enterprise risk management efforts, compliance effectiveness reviews, and legal trainings, and provide internal trainings on topics such as careful communications and attorney client privilege. <p></p> <p><b> Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent</b></p> <br> <p></p> <b>Your formula for success…</b> <p></p> • Law bachelor’s degree, bar admission in at least one US state is required. • Broad litigation expertise and diverse experience (in areas such as toxic tort, agricultural and other products liability, commercial, and patent) in a corporate legal department and/or law firm of at least 7 years • Experience in negotiating, assessing, and implementing alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) • Demonstrating your excellent negociation, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as your ability to navigate adeptly within a matrix organization and cross-culturally will be valued. • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and your sound business and legal judgment. <p></p> <b>You @ BASF</b> <p></p> At BASF you get more than just compensation, Medical &amp; Dental.
