<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText"><div> Responsibilities: <p> As Counsel, you’ll support Principal’s dually registered broker-dealer and investment adviser and will be involved in development of new products and services, drafting and negotiating agreements, operations and regulatory compliance issues, implementation of new rules, regulations, and regulatory guidance; regulatory exams and inquiries, and provide guidance on financial professional recruitment, supervision, and discipline. This position will allow for exposure to many of Principal’s financial and insurance products and the opportunity to gain exposure to multiple business units.</p> <p></p> <p><br> You’ll also have the opportunity to:</p> <p></p> <ul> <li><br> Handle legal matters of intermediate complexity to ensure that company affairs are conducted within the framework of the law and consistent with sound business practices and ethics.</li> <li> Monitor and provide sound legal advice to business unit partners on legislative and regulatory issues, including analysis of facts and of proposed legislation and regulation.</li> <li> Build and strengthen relationships and company engagement at trade associations (e.g., ACLI, Federation, LICONY, ACLHIC, etc.); advance company positions within those associations.</li> <li> Represent, advocate to, and negotiate with state legislators and regulators on behalf of the company, including but not limited to examinations/audits.</li> <li> Advise business unit parties via provision of substantive and political insights where appropriate.</li> <li> Serve on multiple state guaranty association boards to represent company interests and influence board and guaranty association system/NOLHGA decisions.</li> <li> Evaluate state-level candidate and trade requests for political support and coordinate within GR on strategies and opportunities for giving.</li> <li> Establish and grow relationships with business unit partners and with industry peers.</li> <li> Identify and address emerging issues relevant to the company; anticipate and guard against legal risks to the company.</li> <li> Assist in development of company policies and positions.</li> </ul> <br> <div></div> Qualifications: <ul> <li>Requires JD with at least 8 years of experience as an attorney</li> <li> Must be admitted to practice in the state employed within twelve months of hire</li> <li> Requires knowledge of the relevant area of law and its application</li> <li> Must be able to work as a member of a team and independently on a self-motivated basis</li> <li> Requires superior written and verbal communication skills</li> <li> Must be able to apply knowledge of the law to make sound judgments, communicate, and interact with others in a professional manner</li> <li> Experience advising broker dealer and/or investment advisors strongly preferred</li> <li> Some travel may be required</li> </ul> Salary Range Information: Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range: $140000 - $210000 / year Additional Information: <p><b> Work Environment </b></p> <p>This role offers the ability for in-office, hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements.
