<div id="jobDescriptionText" class="jobsearch-jobDescriptionText"><div> <p><b>Product Attorney – Open Source Software </b></p> <p>Overview: As an important member of the Product, Intellectual Property, Privacy and Procurement (PIPP) Team within the Juniper Legal Organization, the candidate will be a seasoned attorney working with business units to support all aspects of product development and new product introductions through the entire product life cycle, from design for security/compliance/manufacturing, product development, to sales and post-sales support. The product attorney will have an emphasis on providing legal support for the open source program, advising the company on a wide-range of open source licensing and compliance matters. The candidate will contribute to and oversee a variety of objectives, and will align and coordinate priorities and activities with cross-functional stakeholders. </p> <p>The attorney will be embedded with engineering and product management teams, and work closely with the privacy, security, IP, trade compliance and other members of the Legal department to provide integrated support, including coordination of holistic legal review of new products and product features for compliance with data protection, export control, localization, open source, third-party licensing terms and other applicable requirements. This is a newly created position reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Senior Director. The Product Counsel may be located at Juniper’s headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, or remote. </p> <p>Key Duties and Responsibilities: </p> <ul> <li>Support product managers and engineers within development teams by providing integrated legal review of new products and new product features, including for compliance with regulatory (e.g., privacy and security) and third-party licensing requirements </li> <li>Embed with product development teams to support all aspects of engineering development throughout the entire product life cycle </li> <li>Act as a primary point of contact within the Products, IP, Privacy and Procurement legal team for outbound Open Source related activities </li> <li>Maintain authoritative knowledge of Juniper’s Open Source usage policies and review procedures </li> <li>Collaborating closely with software development and software assurance teams to drive strategy and policies related to the use of and contributions to open source projects </li> <li>Coordinate with the privacy, security, IP, trade compliance and other members of the legal department to translate risk management requirements into the product development process </li> <li>Support product end of life and end of service issues </li> </ul> <p>Required Experience and Qualifications: </p> <ul> <li>JD degree or equivalent. Admission to the State of California Bar or other states </li> <li>A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience as a product attorney; relevant in-house experience with a in a large, complex organization or high-tech corporate environment </li> <li>Experienced in embedding inside R&amp;D teams and providing early risk management guidance and advice </li> <li>Understanding of Linux, embedded systems, software containers, build systems, and/or computer networking is preferred </li> <li>Familiarity with product-related regulatory compliance requirements such as export control, intellectual property, privacy, standards, and customized go-to-market terms </li> <li>Proven expertise in advising business clients regarding open source legal issues, and a dedication to developing solutions for business clients </li> </ul> <p>Essential Attributes: </p> <ul> <li>Capacity to think analytically and strategically to identify issues early on at the first line of defense and to develop long-term solutions </li> <li>Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to take the legal lead on a project, juggle and prioritize multiple tasks </li> <li>Ability to facilitate mutual understanding between the business side and the legal department </li> <li>Technically inclined and technology savvy with some level of technical background, including experience with software products for engineering applications and exposure to end of life or end of service issues.
